    3. I have the November 1857 marriage certificate of my gg-grandfather Arthur McIvor (a.k.a. McKever apparently!) At the time he was resident in what appears to be Rekin, Rikin, Riken or possibly even Kiln Dyke Lane South Shields, and his occupation was an alkali labourer. Can anyone suggest answers for any of the following?: - what the name might actually be? - where abouts in Shields the street is, or more likely was? And the answer is RekenDyke Lane, South Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE33 1SG. (thanks to the search option at www.oldmaps.uk which will show you an 1862 map of the area.) Searching on www.streetmap.co.uk shows it to be a very short lane - so short that there is not enough space on the map to show its name in full. It is there, however, named as "Reke L", about 300m from the river. Alternatively, go to http://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/oswebsite/getamap/ and enter the postcode to see a current map of the area, but at a scale too large to see street names. in 1881, there were 13 households recorded in Reken Dyke Lane, Census Place Westoe, Durham,England PRO Ref RG11 Piese 5017 Folio 26 Page 44 and 45. No McIvors in 1881, however. Cheers, Tim S.
