I wonder if SKS could assist? It would seem by information on their Death Certificates; that my Grandparents; Robert & Dorothy Ann WALTON; together with their 2 children, Madeline & Robert; emigrated to Australia in1914 and by ship? A Cousin has my Grandfather, "Robert WALTON to Australia 25 Nov 1913 by T.S. SULIMAROA"? I "Googled" last night and could find no such ship. I also question the date, as my Grandfather, Robert WALTON was "Initiated into Borough Lodge No.424 (Masonic Lodge), Durham, 15 Dec 1913". If anyone has ready access to the shipping records; could you please advise if there was such a ship or if not; what it was or may have been? I am also very keen to learn what ship they actually did emigrate to Australia on? If you can assist in any way; I would be ever so very grateful. Kindest regards; Robert KEMSLEY Australia
Robert, I understand passenger records up to 1923 or 1924 for NSW arrivals are at State Records at Kingswood in Western Sydney (after that they are at the National Archives). www.records.nsw.gov.au/staterecords/ I think they are in the process of redoing their website so some of the links are temporarily out of action. You can find info on passengers and shipping and how to access the records this way: from the main screen click on the link "The State archives" (which is under the sub-heading "this website includes three sub-sites"). on the next screen click on "archives in brief" which is in the left column under the ship on next screen click item 1 shipping and arrival records Alternatively, findmypast is conjunction with the UK National Archives is putting shipping records on-line - at the moment only 1890-1909 but this is an on-going project to list passengers to around 1960. There is a charge for viewing the records. www.findmypast.com/ Could your WALTON family have been on this ship? 1914 Jun 11 Ulimaroa <http://www.blaxland.com/ozships/events/5/462.htm#17328> New Zealand to Hobart (1914 Jun 11) The ship may have made other voyages, but I found this on this website and checked arrivals 1914 www.blaxland.com/ozships/ Hope this helps.
