I came across this advertisement when I was doing the Evening Chronicle death notice look ups. It was in the paper on 5th February 1890. FREE AND ASSISTED PASSAGES TO QUEENSLAND, AUSTRALIA GEORGE RANDALL, Esq., Queensland Government Commissioner will attend the office of Mr. Wm. J. Johnson, 96, High Street, Gateshead, on Saturday, the 9th of February, between 1 p.m. and 5 P.M., for the purpose of furnishing information and selecting suitable applicants for free and assisted passages. FREE PASSAGES are being granted to Genuine Farm Labourers and Female Domestic Servants, and ASSISTED PASSAGES to Miners, Gardeners, Navvies, Quarrymen, and the like.
