Although this info doesn't help with this particular enquiry, it is something to consider when you need census entries that can't be found elsewhere. So far FreeCEN has transcribed over 30% of the 1861 census for Co. Durham although not the Houghton Le Spring pieces yet. If you are looking for someone in Co. Durham it's certainly worth a try. And, of course, the project would be completed much quicker if there were more volunteers to transcribe, check or validate the data. Anyone who has a little spare time and believes that the census should be freely available to all can volunteer either by looking at the FreeCEN website at www.freecen.org.uk or by dropping me an email and I'll pass you on to any area coordinator of your interests. Regards, Irene Marlborough FreeCEN Coordinator for Manchester 1861 http://www.freecen.org.uk
