If such mis-transcriptions are found on the Ancestry site then it is a good case for adding a correction to any entry found where the name has been wrongly transcribed. If you find a family on the censuses at Ancestry with a wrongly transcribed name then go to the link on the left of the results list, "View Record" this brings up a pane showing brief details of the household and over on the right of the page is a short column of links. One of these is for adding a comment or correction. Go there and make the correction. Eventually the correction you add will appear in the index with a little symbol beside the name to draw your attention to the correction. If we all do this every time we find a wrongly copied name on the indexes at Ancestry it will help others searching for the same family. I believe that you can also add corrections to the indexes on the findmypast site, formerly 1837online. Regards Jenny DeAngelis.
