    3. Happy 2007 to All! I have a problem with my 3x great grandfather, Andrew Telford, as seems not to have been born at all. Well, not under TELFORD anyhow. According to censuses, he would have been born c1831. In Alnwick, I believe. I have him in Wilson St, South Shields in the 1871 census and in Brunswick St in the 1881 but under the name of BOHILLS. So I started digging under BOHILLS. To cut a very long story short, I now believe my Andrew to Belong to Robert Bohills and wife Mary (surname unknown). I have Robert on censuses 1841 - 71. His place of birth Dunstan's Hill / Embleton. Andrew is with them on 1841 with a sister Margaret, who died a few years later, and with sister Mary in the 1851 census. On these, Andrew's place of birth is Alnwick. He appears to have 'disappeared' as of the 1861 census. I suspect this is about the time he married Elizabeth Hume in / around South Shields, although I cannot find a record. He and Elizabeth had children: Margaret (my 2x g/grandmother, born Dec 1867 and reg under TALFORD), Ann, Caroline and Robert. Elizabeth was first married to Thomas Forsyth c1852 but I cannot find that marriage either. On the 1851 census, Elizabeth is at Donaldson's Lodge, Cornhill NBL (on the Scottish border) with Thomas and her in laws. On the 1841 census I found an Elizabeth HUME also at Donaldson's Lodge with, quite possibly, her mother, Mary. On the 1841 census, Thomas is with his parents in Chatton but was baptised at Crookham Presbyterian. Interestingly, one doesn't find Andrew Telford and Andrew Bohills in the censuses together. I find one or the other, but not both in the same census at the same time. I was wondering if anyone had access to the registers of any of the above parishes and was able to see if an Andrew TELFORD / BOHILLS was born in Alnwick c1831, or for marriage of Robert BOHILLS & Mary ? at some point before that, either in Embleton or Alnwick. I've even entertained the idea that this may have been a remarriage for Mary ? and that Andrew was originally a TELFORD, was know as BOHILLS as a child / youth, then revered to TELFORD as an adult. Not to mention Andrew's marriage to Elizabeth c1862, probably in South Shields (this is when first hubby Thomas Forsyth died) or Elizabeth's marriage to Thomas c1851/52. Need I say I am losing my mind! Many thanks Lee Melbourne Australia
