I should imagine that it was named Irish street after the huge influx of Irish due to the famine...my lot arrived from County Down in the late1840s...and when I checked the census many in the street were of the same heritage William Johnson and wife Jane arrived 1847cc with children Samuel bn C Down 1839 William bn C Down 1841 James bn C Down 1848 then Horace bn Bellington 1849 David bn Bellington 150 Samuel....(married Mary Liddell Oct 1858 in Gateshead) and had 8 known children including my ggrandmother Isabella who married Edward Charlton and came to NSW AUS early 1900s with 4 children Christene
