Hi Ive recently received evidence that my Jasper Smith was baptised at Grindon near Stockton 1765 thanks to that wonderful Barrington period when a child of his was baptised in Tanfield:) I can see from IGI his mam was Jane and that around that time there seemed to be a family of Smiths that can pretty much be connected. There are also however Smiths arriving from nearby Sedgefield circa 1768. If I were to see the parish records would there be anything in addition to IGI details to help me link families together or is it pretty much just down to taking a reasoned guess for want of a better description. I know that by early 1800s my Jasper was a pitman and that some Smiths still in Grindon at that time were Yeomen/butchers etc curtesy of wills on national archives(although these appear to be Sedgefield Smiths), other than that are dates and dads names all I will get? By the way if any Grindon, Thorpe Thewles or Sedgefield Smiths are out there, Id love to hear from you. Carol
