Give them the details you have found and explain that you can't read the Registration District name nor the volume or page numbers. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ I did this once when I could not make out the volume and page numbers for a death reg. though I could read the district name on the entry I found in the GRO index. It is worth an e.mail to them to see what they can do to help. You will get an automated reply to begin with and will need to respond to it to get through to them and get a proper response, follow the instructions in that automated reply. Where do you think your Mark Winter would have been born? I searched the 1851 for Mark Winter born 2 yrs either side of 1849 and left blank the bodxed for the birth place and place of abode but couldn't turn up a single entry with that name and that span of years anywhere in England. What do you think his parents name would have been? perhaps we can track him through his parents and where they were from? Where would you expect them to be living in the censuses, which county? The certificate is for John Douglas McKay born on 7 Jan 1839 in what looks like Grainger Street in the sub district of St Andrew in Newcastle upon Tyne. His parents are John McKay and Elizabeth McKay formerly Hope (or Cope, it's not clear!). John senior is listed as a Baker. I'm trying to find their marriage or any other information about this family. They are very elusive on the 1841 census and I've tried the LDS site for a marriage. Perhaps someone more experienced than me will have more luck. Thanks in advance Net ------------------------------ Message: 4 Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2007 20:41:07 -0000 From: "BrianGenealogy" <genealogy@leggtronix.e7even.com> Subject: Re: [DUR-NBL] John McKay - Baker To: "Net Ambler" <net.ambler@btinternet.com> Cc: DUR-NBL-D@rootsweb.com Message-ID: <01ad01c7602f$e3cbc460$6401a8c0@Master> Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed; charset="iso-8859-1"; reply-type=original Hi Net - "formerly Hope (or Cope, it's not clear!)."
