    3. Jan I don't think the Volume is I. I looked on Ancestry, which has a lower-contrast image. There is a vertical stroke, but there are 'header' and 'footer' strokes extending well to the right suggesting at least one other character. However that is completely blank. The registration district seems to be quite a long word, but is indecipherable. Has Ralph no other information - census, parents etc? I couldn't myself find him in 1851, or any death in 1849-1851.     3. Hi Neil, I looked on the free part of Ancestry BMD and I couldnt make out the registration district either - it was too faint. I had thought that the Volume was I, but my sight is not as good as it used to be, so it sounds as if I'm wrong. :-) It is a hard entry to read isnt it! Ralph didnt give us any other information about him.
