    3. Hello All, I've recently discovered that my 2xgreat-grandfather Andrew McCAFFREY (born 1867, Armagh, Ireland) was married twice. Daft devil here didn't read his wife's name on the 1891 census and it wasn't until I was rechecking some information that I realised he married 10 years after the eldest child was born and had a further 2 before he married - duh!!! The eldest child Margaret Elizabeth McCAFFREY (born 1889, Felling, Co. Durham) was my great-grandmother. Luckily I hadn't done much else with this family so wasn't on a wild goose chase up the wrong family line - and ordered her birth certificate which confirmed I'd got it wrong. Anyway as a result of my discovery I've determined that Andrew married Mary TURNBULL (born 1871, Eckford, Roxburghshire, Scotland) on 21st April 1888 at St. Marys Church Heworth, Co. Durham. His father was Owen McCAFFREY who was a Labourer and her father was Richard TURNBULL a joiner. They were both resident at Heworth Colliery - which I believe is/was a small colliery village. Using ancestry and the IGI I've discovered the following: Mary (mentioned above) according to the IGI was born Mary Allan Johnston TURNBULL and was born on 18 May 1871 in Eckford. Her parents were Richard TURNBULL born 1847, Morebattle, Roxburghshire and Elizabeth CLINTON (born c.1847). They married in 1871 also Eckford. Mary had 3 sisters Isabella (c.1874), Agnes (c.1876) and Elizabeth (c.1879). Apart from Mary all the children were born in Co. Durham. Richard TURNBULLs parents were Richard TURNBULL born c.1814, England (he was a shepherd) and Isabella HALL born 1816 in (I think) Hawick, Roxburghshire. They had Isabella (1843), Margaret (1845), Richard (already mentioned), Agnes (1849) all born Morebattle. Also, Elizabeth (c.1853), Janet (1856), William (1858), Robert (1860) and Mary (1863). I'd love to hear from anyone who has connections to the above. I'm especially interested to know if anyone can pinpoint where the elder Richard TURNBULL was born, I'm guessing probably Co. Durham/Northumberland area due to the proximity to the scottish borders. I would also be very appreciative if someone could look up the families on the 1871 & 1901 Scottish census indexes which appeared the week after my subscription expired. With Regards Karen West Yorkshire P.S. I've posted on few lists so apologies if you get this more than once.
