Hi everyone, I am new to the list and trying to help a recently found cousin with her research. She lives in France and I live in Canada ........we share 2 x great grandparents. She is researching the MACE family and is having great difficulty finding the parents of Charles MACE, born Darlington, Durham........ census info has his birth from 1825 to 1835. On the 26 of March I joined this list and put out a request for help. While awaiting a response I have spent some time doing lookups for another person on this List. I had expected someone to make contact to tell me the information is not or is available, or lookups are not or are done or at least something. It is disappointing but I also understand if there isn't anyone who has the info it would not be forthcoming. I just wish I knew. Hello Margaret, I don't have Ancestry, but I've checked the 1881 and found Charles (I think) at Bishopwearmouth age 55, a marine (seaman) with wife Christiana and 6 children. There is also a death registration in the Dec. quarter 1886, Sunderland vol 10a page 285, for Charles Mace age 61, so both of these put his birth around 1825. The local library has films of St Cuthbert's parish registers which I'll check on my next visit later this week. It should be a lot easier than having to check through a possible 10 years of entries. There is a fiche of Baptism, Marriage & Burials 1798-1812 (St Cuthbert was the parish church) but no MACE or similar names are listed. Perhaps they came to Darlington from elsewhere. It does not seem to be a common name in the North east.
