    1. [DUR-NBL] John & George GOTTS
    2. Pat & Noel Upsall
    3. Hello all John & George GOTTS were 2 brothers who left Norfolk in the 1870s to find work in the mines in the north of England. GEORGE married Ann (also called Annie) HOGG in 1878 (Gateshead Dist) and they had a son, Robert William b.1879. George died in 1880 JOHN married Margaret Jane ALNWICK in 1874 (Gateshead Dist) and they had a daughter, Mary Elizabeth (also known as Mary Lizzy) b.1879. Margaret died soon after as on the 1881 Census for Ryton we find that Ann (widow) is 'housekeeper' to John (widower). On the 1891 Census for Willington John & Ann are shown as husband and wife (I haven't found details of a marriage) with Robert & Mary plus two children of their own, Susannah b.1886 & John Henry bc.1891. Ann died in 1895 and John in 1919 and both are buried at Willington. Robert William GOTTS married Lilian Elizabeth O'CALLAGHAN in 1899 and I know of one son - Robert Edward b.1900 Mary Lizzy GOTTS married Tom FOSTER in 1900 at Willington and on the free BMDs I have found one daughter b.1913 - Doris. There may be other children born before then, but I know Doris is a definite because Mary's maiden surname of Gotts is shown. John Henry GOTTS married Susannah SAWLEY in 1912 and a son, John, was born in 1913 - again confirmed by the mother's maiden surname on the free BMDs Susannah GOTTS married in 1909 either George HOUGHTON or Edward STOREY I would be pleased to hear from anyone who is connected to my two gt.uncle's families and are able to fill in some more information for me. Many thanks - Pat from Tuross Head NSW Oz
