    1. Re: [DUR-NBL] Bethalina
    2. Looking at the distribution I think it is a local spelling of Bethel+ina. Bethel; A hallowed spot; a place where God is worshipped; the pillar that marks such a place. (See Gen. xxviii. 17.) Sometimes used (esp. by some Methodists and Baptists) like ‘Zion,’ ‘Zoar,’ ‘Bethesda,’ etc., as the designation of their chapel or meeting-house. -ina is the Latin feminine suffix to form feminine titles, as tsar-ina, and female Christian names, as Alexandr-ina, Angel-ina, Christ-ina, Clement-ina, Georg-ina, Thomas-ina, Wilhelm-ina, etc. In the 1881 Census there are 136 males with the forename Bethel, and 14 female, although 6 of these are middle names. There are 4 Bethelina. Regards Stan Mapstone
