    1. [DUR-NBL] Northumberland Kyles
    2. Hi guys / gals Can I pick your collective brains as I had another look at the Kyle family on Friday last We have a direct ancestor John Kyle who died in Spittal in 1830 whose age was stated as 80. (Delightfully approximate one suspects !) The children are all from Spittal from 1777 onwards - the presbyterian chapel dates from that period in its modern form having been founded in 1754. If not from Spittal where did John originate ? Holy Island is close and has a family of Kyles starting with Robert Kyle...... but they did not start until the last decade of the 18th Century. Here we have a few clues as the children were born at Bedlington ( Farnace ?) / Bilton ( Flint Mill ?). Robert who should have been born about 1768 is described as being from Glanton in the parish of Whittingham. I believe that there is a Robert Kyle on the IGI being born in the parish of Lesbury in 1766. Hence on Friday last I went to Newcastle to explore these there parishes. Those persons I expected were there except for Robert in 1766. There were no parish records for Whittingham although they were in the index. I did look at Glanford Presbyterian which only starts in about 1764 previously to no avail I am not anxious to take another even longer trip to Ashington in the short term as I had trouble walking after Fridays event for a couple of days. There are Kyles in Ponteland in the 1750s who then seem to disappear. I do however have difficulty in reconciling a move form Ponteland to Spittal although I cannot discount it. I am quite happy to buy a transcript or CD of the Whittingham records completely on spec if there is no other way forward (its bound to be cheaper than a trip to Ashington) One slight thought might be about the Enclosure Acts which may have affected Ponteland or even Whittingham in the latter half of the 18th century but I cannot find a list of dates for those areas I am open to any suggestions on a way forward as I really would like to find the John Kyle if it is possible.
