I wondered if anyone had completed a Surname index for the transcripts and if so if this was available online?

As someone else has told you in a reply, there is not index to there online BTs at the familysearch site. But you can move through the pages more quickly by changing the page number in the "Goto" box at the top of the page. If, for example, the particular BTs you are looking at had 100 pages covering years 1800-1840 and you are looking for an event in 1820 then you can change the number in the Goto box to 50 and click the button. Begin there looking to see what year is covered by page 50. If page 50 has a year very close to 1820 then you can go back and forth from there by using the Previous and Next buttons. Or, if page 50 is way off the mark, change the number in the Goto box again to bring you nearer to where you want to be. It is all a bit hit and miss but it does mean by doing this you can skip many pages and get close to where you need to be for the year you want to look at. You just need to make a calculation about where your year of interest will fall within the given number of pages and years covered by them.
