If it is just Regimental History about the 4th. Bn. in WW1 then try sites http://www.1914-1918.net/coldguards.htm photos of the 4th. Bn. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sunnybrook100/1502437743/ Information on all Bns http://battlefields1418.50megs.com/regiment002.htm Or you could join this list which is very good & helpful britregiments@yahoogroup.com or try join the Great War Forum http://1914-1918.invisionzone.com/forums/index.php Or post the question on the list & one of the listers, might have the information you require. 1. Re: [DUR-NBL] Relatives in the 4th Btn Coldstream Guards?
    2. Hi John and (all), I am trying to find a photo of my great grandfather, any photo, I have a suitcase full of photos from my late grandmother, and don't know which is my great grandfather. There were no obvious photos of a Coldstreamer (I have posted on The Great War forum you mention and ruled out the uniformed photos I have) He had a military funeral in Gateshead after 16 years service with 2 medals and 5 bars, with a contingent from the DLI (despite him being a Coldstreamer) performing a gun salute, it made the local paper, and had two photos from the funeral (none of him alive), which based on other funerals of the day appears to be quite unusual. I have the military/pension records have checked the local papers, know all about where he served and battles etc the pension details, the dependents etc, have the death certificate. I know his chest size, he had "slight varicose veins on both legs", height, etc where and when he was shot, and that he made it home alive, I know a 14 strong firing party. fired three volleys over the coffin under the command of Lieut H V Chisholm, heading the cortege. The buglers present were Simmons and Bosomworth. Father Jacobs of ST Josephs conducted the service. He had a large number of wreaths including one from the Naval Inspection Department Newcastle (I am yet to figure out why) Despite all this fantastic information on this hero, I don't have a photo, I have such a mental picture of my G Grandfather, but would really like to know what he looks like I know I am very lucky and many people just have a photo and not this kind of detailed information, but I would just like to know what he looked like, and so hopefully recognise him in the photos I have. And was hoping that there might be some friends who he signed up with in the area, and their descendants might have some photos they could copy for me. Am simultaneously trying the Coldstreamers nationally too. Long shot? Yup, but am aiming for the stars and might just hit the moon. Cheers for any pointers Jack --- On Sun, 1/8/10, John Gallon <little.blobby2@btinternet.com> wrote: > From: John Gallon <little.blobby2@btinternet.com> > Subject: Re: [DUR-NBL] Relatives in the 4th Btn Coldstream Guards? > To: topoisomer@yahoo.com, DUR-NBL-L@rootsweb.com > Date: Sunday, 1 August, 2010, 12:54 > > Hi all, > > Another long shot, but this seems to be one of the two > best places to start. > > Does anyone know if they have ancestors from the NE > who were in the 4th Battalion Coldstream guards? > (1915-1918) > > Cheers > > Jack > > Dear Jack, > > You do not mention the reason why you want Listers to > contact you whose ancestors were in 4th Bn.
