Dear all, Following a wonderful lead, I now know that my 3 x great aunt, Ann PRIOR, married William TURPIE on 18 March 1861 in Arbroath, Forfar. Ann PRIOR was born in South Shields on 7 January 1835, daughter of James PRIOR and Ann (nee Archer). William TURPIE was the son of Alexander TURPIE and Elizabeth (nee GRAY). I don't know why Ann PRIOR went to Arbroath. She shows as a dressmaker, spinster on the marriage record. William TURPIE was a seaman, bachelor who shows as born in Arbroath on the 1871 census (South Shields, RG10 5033, page 40, schedule 209, 184 East Adelaide Street), so perhaps they went back to his family to marry. They had children born in South Shields: Ann Elizabeth TURPIE, born and died in 1862 Francis Walters B. TURPIE, born 1864 James Prior TURPIE, born 1865 William Gibson TURPIE, born 1868 Alexander TURPIE, born 1870 John TURPIE, born 1873 Charles Smith TURPIE, born 1876 I would be delighted to hear from anyone who may have these people in their tree.
