Steve, You might just have to resort to getting Gladstone Fenwick's birth certificate to find the correct mother's name to help figure out the relationship. By WW1 draft time Gladstone was living in Bower Hill, Norfolk, Virginia. Born 1 Aug 1886 Northumberland, naturalized citizen and supporting his farther (sic) and mother, looks like he was a Farm worker, single. By WW2 draft time (1942) he was still in Norfolk Co. Virginia, employed at home and the person who would always know his address was Miss Margaret Fenwick, Bowers Hill, Norfolk Co., Virginia, no mention of a wife. Gladstone died in Mar 1972 and last SS payment address went to Portsmouth City, Portsmouth, Virginia. So he may started out in West Virginia but lived most of his adult life in Virginia. The 1910 census also reveals that John and Jane Fenwick were married 35 years by that time, 7 children, 6 alive. You can see more of the children and that the occupation turned to farming by the 1930 census. From the 1930 census there is a son Charles Bruno age 50 and a son James William who is 53 as well as a Thomas age 46, Gladstone and Margaret are there also. All these sons have WW1 draft registration cards with their birthdates on them--living in Bower Hill, Norfolk, Virginia In the 1881 census for England: RG11/5090 folio 83 page 21 Beehive Inn, Seghill, NBL John H Fenwick, Head, Mar, 30, Innkeeper, Northumberland Newcastle Jane L.
