In the 1851 Census New Gateshead is in District 10, from HO107 Piece 2402 Folio 640 Page 9 to HO107 Piece 2402 Folio 643 Page 15. It comes after Hawks Lane. On the 1894-1899 map the inn on Hawks Street is the "New Gateshead Inn", there is also a school. There were no street names in New Gateshead in the 1850s. If you go to http://tinyurl.com/37urlkf it shows the area of New Gateshead as it is now on Google Maps. Some of the original streets are still there, e.g. Nixon Street, Hawks Street, and Albany Road. The area was called Salt Meadows on later maps.
