The probable censuses for her childhood don't seem to bear this out although a lot can happen between 10 year intervals. Having been born and bred in Amble I decided to have a bit more of a look at this one as I know that Cliff House was eventually divided amongst quite a lot of households. Roy has said that it is likely that Sarah is the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Linnen (living in Radcliffe on the 1871 census). By 1881 Elizabeth is a widow living in Amble with her sons, BUT, in 1891 she has remarried and is living in Cliff House (RG12, Piece 4262, Folio 40 page 74). Her husband is George Robinson, a retired pilot, 35 years her senior, her sons are still with her, named Linnen. As with a lot of family memories, there is usually a bit of fact mixed in with the story!
