    3. Dear Listers, I wonder if anyone could locate Sarah Ann Lennon on the 1871 census. She was born circa 1863 at North Seaton, Northumberland. By 1881 she is in service so not with her family of origin. Best wishes, Mary

    3. Hi Mary, I found a possible entry in 1871 for Sarah A Linnen. Ref. RG10 piece 5171 folio 13 page 20 Hauxley NBL Address Long Row Radcliff village Thomas Linnen 35 occ. Coalhewer Elizabeth wife 29 Sarah A. dau. 5 Ellen dau. 3, John son 2 mths. But! I found a death on FreeBMD for a Thomas Linnen aged 47 at Alnwick reg. district Sept. Qtr. 1879 volume 10b page 195 Though the age at death of 47 in 1879 does not fit with the age of 35 in the 1871 census, unless someone made an error with the age, by quite a wide margin, in one or other of these records. Alnwick reg. district took in Hauxley at the time. Given that the surname is Linnen in the death entry above I suspect that the above census family might not be your Lennon's under a different spelling of their name. Something else I found on FreeBMD is a birth in June Qtr. 1863 for a Sarah Ann Lennon Liverpool reg. district volume 8b page 109. I made the above search for the full name Sarah Ann Lennon between 1860-1870 but without selecting any county or registration district, so countrywide this is the only result I got for this name during that 10 year period on FreeBMD. Could it be that Sarah Ann was born in Liverpool but then, before she was old enough to know any different, the family moved to North Seaton where she then remembered growing up. Once she was working as a servant, in 1881, she might give her employer her place of birth as the place she remembered living as a small child, not knowing her true place of birth? Were her parents Irish? could it be that they arrived in Liverpool from Ireland and Sarah Ann was born there before the family moved on? Liverpool being the most commonly used port for anyone coming from Ireland. I could not find a birth on FreeBMD for any Sarah Len* between 1860-1870 born Morpeth reg. district. I used the * wildcard with the fist 3 letters of the surname so that I might get all variants of the spelling. Morpeth reg. district took in North Seaton at this time. Making the same name search for the same year span but searching with the County of Northumberland, no reg. district selected. I only got up 2 results Sarah Lennox at Newcastle Upon tyne March Qtr. 1867 volume 10b page 122 Sarah Lenwick at Tynemouth Sept. Qtr. 1868 volume 10b page 160. Making the same search again but chagning the county to County Durham I got several results of variant names but not one Lennon amongst them. Perhaps if you give the rest of us what you know of Sarah Ann, her parents and any names for her siblings that you might have we might have more chance of finding her for you in the 1871.
