I can't see an obvious connection at the moment, due to the fact that the particular Ord line I'm researching at present were originally called Scott, but had to change to Ord in order to inherit from Elizabeth Armstrong (nee Ord) of Hexham's 1770 will. My line of Ords are from Whitley Chapel, Hexhamshire, and earlier Brokenheugh in Haydon Bridge. Elizabeth Armstrong (nee Ord) had a sister Dorcas Ord who married Thomas Errington and are my direct line. I'm trying to discover if the Scott family who changed to Ord were related in some way. I wonder if your William and Jane Ord are the couple who live in South Shields through the census? You probably already know that the Ancestry probate calendar for 1863 shows William Ord as dying on 24 August 1862 at South Shields, and leaving a will? They were married at Christ Church Tynemouth. William was a master mariner. Cannot get back any further at the moment, but do you think you may have a connection with this Ord branch? regards June <
