    3. Hi all, I'm trying to help someone locate the graves of James and Mary FOSTER who lived at Hindley Hall, Broomley, Northumberland. James FOSTER died on 30 March 1879, at Hindley, aged 60, and his death was reported in The Standard (London, England). He left a substantial will, and had been a Lead-Manufacturer. There are many references to him and some of his family on Durham Record Office site; Tyne & Wear Archives, National Archives etc, but no mention of his burial place. I believe that St. Peter, Bywell would be the parish church for Broomley, and I visited the churchyard yesterday. Unfortunately, I could not find a gravestone for them, but several stones were illegible, and some are laid flat. The church seems to be closed at the present time, no doubt due to the bad weather conditions over the winter, so I could not check if there was a memorial plaque inside the church. (Completely unrelated, despite the bitter cold, the snowdrops were trying their best to grow and flower!). >From a report in the Newcastle Courant, (23 February 1877), their daughter, Emma Foster, was married on 15 February 1877 in Cannes, France, British Vice Consulate to Charles Frank Forster, she the daughter of James Foster, Hindley Hall, Stocksfield on Tyne. There was quite a large headstone in the churchyard: Charles James Forster, son of C. F. Forster, born June 4th 1880, died at Hindley July 28th 1881. Grandmother Mary Foster was still living at Hindley Hall, Broomley in the 1881 census, which leads me to believe that her husband James Foster would also be buried there, and possibly herself, whenever she shuffled off the mortal coil. Does anyone please have access to the burial records for St. Peter, Bywell who could possibly help to confirm whether the senior Fosters were buried there? Kind regards, Yvonne Purdy
