    3. Hello Diana, I'm afraid that I can't help with your query as I have not got that far back, but I wonder if your Thomas BARKESS is connected to my 3 x great grandfather Thomas BARKESS (aka Barkes, Barkass) who according to all censuses was born in Durham c.1811. I have not been able to find a baptism either. He married Elizabeth SMITH in Houghton le Spring on 4 July 1838 where his father was named John BARKESS, Waggonman. Thomas & Elizabeth BARKESS brought up their 10 children in Seaham Harbour where Thomas died in 1884, aged 73 years. I would be interested to hear if you know of a connection. Hello, I'm looking for any birth / baptism information for Thomas BARKES (could also be BARKAS, BARKESS etc.). >From a family record I think he lived 1750 to 1800. I know he married Isabella GALESBY in 1774 in Chester-Le-Street. His seven children were born at Holmside Lane, Lanchester. He may have died in Sunderland. Any information appreciated - have tried the usual routes on Ancestry, durhamrecordsonline and FamilySearch so this is a last-gasp before I call this line cold. Also delighted to hear from anyone else researching other parts of this same family.
