I know about the various naming conventions when it comes to naming a child, but I wonder whether anyone has come across an instance where it appears a son may have be assigned the same three given names as his father? The person in question (and I think I should add I'm still researching) is one Robert Paxton Green Ackroyd. He was born around 1783 and there appears to have been a baptism at St Andrew's Church in Newcastle on 23 February 1783. Now, from what I have found out so far, he had a son who I first thought had been called Robert Paxton Ackroyd, born about 1817 in Durham. However, it is beginning to look as though this son was also called Robert Paxton Green Ackroyd. It would help to know if this is highly unusual, or whether other listers have come across such instances of the passing on of identical given names to the power of three! I personally have not come across this before and it has certainly had me scratching my head this last week or two as I have tried to unravel the puzzle. Regards... David Allan.
Hello List Members, Doing some research recently relating to my NBL-County Durham ancestors & their extended families has led me from one web site to another. The links below will take you to two that were new to me, perhaps to you, and although I did not find any of my STRAUGHAN, BELL, BURDESS family I found the web sites interesting and well constructed. I hope these are of interest to some others: http://www.stmaryschurchheworth.com/ and http://www.tynesidegravematters.com/ Best wishes, Bette

I want to thank the posters who tried to help me figure out the delay in getting a certificate dated 1848 from the GRO. I finally received it yesterday and am happy. Now I have to figure out if this JOHN JONES a Clothier, is my John Jones" His daughter (I think) Margaret Jones married an Irishman PATRICK WOODS and they lived up in the Consett area. I have a lot of info from there but nada from Knaresboro as yet. Thanks again to Ian, Janis and Nivard for all the suggestions. If any kind soul has any ideas on why people would leave Knaresboro and go up about 100 miles and start a family maybe they could chime in. Thanks again.

Are you sure this is not meant to be Deanwell, in county Durham? Durham is the only county that is called County Durham in England I believe, unlike the US. Hello Heather, Is there any chance that your Deanwell could be Benwell? It is across the Tyne from Blaydon, in Northumberland (at that time). Why do you ask? There were two cemeteries, St. Nicholas' in Providence Row, and St. Oswald's in Church Croft. Would anyone care to suggest where an ancestor of mine might have been laid to rest? Elizabeth Bell ACKROYD died 27 January 1892 and at the time was living at 13 Allergate, Durham. I know that she was buried three days later in 'Durham', but I have no idea which cemetery. The ACKROYD's had a family confectionary business in Saddler Street (the road that leads up to the cathedral). When Elizabeth's mother Sarah died in 1860, she was buried at nearby St Mary-le-Bow. Elizabeth however, didn't really play much of a part in the family business and went into service. She did quite well and the 1881 census shows that Elizabeth was a housekeeper for HRH Prince Christian and HRH Princess Helena (daughter of HRH Queen Victoria) at Cumberland Lodge, Windsor Great Park. She later returned to her home town of Durham and lived out the remainder of her life, unmarried, at 13 Allergate with her sister Mary (also never married) and a Jane Jopling, who was head of the household. I think that Elizabeth and Mary were related to Jane through marriage. Kind regards... DAVID.
