    1. Re: [DUR-NBL] Hylton Castle Barracks
    2. Hi Douglas. My father-in-law was born in the 1920s at a place called Liberty Villas which was near Usworth Airfield that became the site of the Nissan Car Factory, I think that maybe this was the Army camp that had been abandoned and folk just moved in to the huts because of a shortage of houses, they were squatters, but not in the same sense as modern day squatters as the Army did not seem to mind. If you look on a modern map of Sunderland and find Southwick on the North side of the River Wear - find Southwick Road and follow it West till you come to North Hylton Road, follow the road west past Hylton Castle ruins and Hylton Castle housing estate till you cross the A19 motorway and you are there, it was in the in the area of the Three Horse Shoes public house. Hope this helps. 1. [DUR-NBL] "Abduction pregnancy"
    2. John Fisher
    3. I have thought further about this certificate: Premature separation of the placenta from the uterus is known as "abruptio placentae". Now this is something which could be transcribed from a doctor's handwriting by a registrar of deaths, and look very like "abduction". In modern obstetrics, this is a most dangerous condition, with a very low percentage of saved babies, and a high risk of maternal death, despite the availability of urgent caesarian section and blood transfusion. In the nineteenth century, I would expect death of mother and babe. John Fisher

    3. I have received the following details from the Death certificate of my great Grandfather Joseph COPELAND. I am now particularly interested in the address given for his daughter Elizabeth as it shows that she had married for the second time before 1916 Is there any way to find out who was living at that residence round about 1916 - electoral rolls etc? 2. Thanks for the information Janis. I have the wedding certificate and it says that Mary`s father was called John but it dosent say deceased is that normal. Ralph HALLS father was called Ralph, but i think 1813 would be a little to late for him to be young Ralphs father. George

    3. Dear Dawn, many thanks for your help but as far as I know Lanchester is a separate parish to Medomsley and these 2 George christenings are listed as in the Medomsley parish on the web records via Genuki and are to 2 separate sets of parents so are clearly 2 different people. Again from Genuki Lanchester parish records start in 1560 and Medomsley start in 1608 well before the dates I am looking at. It is so difficult isn't it to separate who is who from such bare information. I know this is problem everyone has but it doesn't stop you hoping you will find some way of separating people. Clearly I shall have to try and get up to Durham but unfortunately it is unlikely to be for some considerable time. Once again many thanks Judy Bleay Cornwall -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Free Edition. Version: 7.5.432 / Virus Database: 268.17.25/669 - Release Date: 04 Feb 2007 21:58

This is almost identical to Spennymoor as a birthplace so Mary Ann may have assumed she was born there too, when it came to her turn to complete the census information. 3. As a doctor, I can only think of two possibilities. Both involve mis-readings, and I'd be interested to know where the information came from. But consider "Abortion -- pregnancy" as a possible mistake in entering, or maybe "ectopic pregnancy" for which another term might have been in use in the year (unstated).

    3. Hi John (and sorry have deleted the original posting to this query) I also did a web search for 'adduction pregnancy' as opposed to 'abduction' and came across a site referring to Talipes a condition we used to know as club foot. Could this death have been caused due to complications for mother and baby experienced during birth? 3. George, There is a Mary Ann Turpin baptised in Tynemouth 21 Sept 1832 d/o John (dec) and Jane. They lived in New York and he was a collier. She was baptised the same day her father John was buried--21 Sept 1832 I have seen this before several times. There was a sibling Joseph Turpin bapt 21 Feb 1830. I couldn't find a Ralph Hall except one baptised in 1813. Janis
