Hello the List Can anyone help me with the following;- Can anyone tell me anything about "Burnside Cottage" at Holywell, and the "Battery Cottage" , the Battery Cottage was dated 1897. Thank you. Elizabeth, Esperance, Western Australia.
Seeking information regarding a possible place to search for a marriage of Thomas Landreth and Jane. Thomas was born at Tweedmouth abt 1803 and Jane was born at Norham abt 1803. This information from census 1851, Lampton Park, Chester Le Street, Durham. The family later moved to Bishopwearmouth. The first child that I have located is Mary Ann Landreth christened at Norham 8 Feb 1825. I have checked the IGI and can't locate a marriage for Thomas Landreth and Jane. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Regards, Jackie in Southern California ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

Does anyone know the whereabouts of a 'Whitworth Park Farm', near Byers Green/Spennymoor area? I have had information e-mailed to me that my great, great aunt Mary Drummond was recorded as a servant there on the 1841 census. However, after looking on the map, I cannot seem to locate a farm with that name (well, not exactly that name). I'm assuming that the farm was on the Whitworth estate. Kind regards... David Allan.
Many thanks to Jan & Stan. I thought it must be near the Bottle works or Glass works. Thanks again. On http://www.tomorrows-history.com/mapping/maps.htm 1856-65 there Woodhouse Farm north east of Whitworth Hall which is not in a directory, nor the 1881 Census but is still there today. Regards Stan Mapstone
In the 1851 Directory there is no Whitworth Park Farm, but there are two Whitworth Farms, one in Whitworth and one in Great Aycliffe. In the 1881 Census there are no Whitworth Farms. There are in Whitworth; Spennymoor House Farm Bishop Close Farm Burton Beck Farm Stanners Farm. Regards Stan Mapstone

South Shields Bottle Works were on the riverside in the area of the Corporation Quay, Mill Dam, and Bottle Hill was in the same area between Commercial Road and the River. Regards Stan Mapstone
Hi, Could anybody give me some pointers as to the location of Bottle Hill, South Shields (Westoe) during the mid 1800's. I have a family of MOORE's growing up there and would like to narrow down the location a bit. If anyone can give me a bit of history of the area during this period it would be appreciated. Hi For some time I have known that my GGGG grandfather William Ramshaw died 1848 in Monkwearmouth due to cholera. Ive just obtained the burial record from Durham records online and it tells me the parish church was St Peters. Parish/Church: Monkwearmouth (St. Peter's) 6 Dec 1848 William Ramshaw, of Colliery, age: 55, Cholera I always assumed he would have been buried in some specific burial plot in Bishopwearmouth due to Cholera being the cause of death- indeed i have received thoughts on this from this group- thanks:) Does this mean maybe he is actually buried at St Peters? It would certainly be lovely to think so- its a spot where I go often. Or could it mean this was the parish but he was actually buried elsewhere? All thought welcome. carol

Jennifer, Unless you can be quite certain that the 1841 Durham Eleanor is the one who you are looking for, it might be advisable to send a query to the Durham records office (with all the relevant family data that you know for sure), rather than simply order the 1841 certificate. As you should see from the link that I sent previously, they have a ready made process for people to "send a query". I have not used that service myself - others may be able to tell you more about it. Good luck, Tim S.
