Hi there, I was wondering if anyone out there had access to Birtley Baptisms for the years 1849-1851? I am trying to track down a Henry Hedley, (father John Hedley) born around 1850 in Birtley. If anyone can take a look, I'll be most grateful. Many thanks Anne.
Hello Sandy, The records you are asking about are on microfilm in Tyne & Wear Archives, Blenheim Street Newcastle upon Tyne. I have death certificates for Ralph Williamson (d. 1888) and his wife Margaret (d. 1893) and was told they are buried in St. Mathew's church cemetery. Their MI's not recorded in a booklet. I am coming to the area in June and want to have this information or at least where I can get it before I come. Thank you to all who have been trying to help. Sandy Bethlehem, Pa. USA
Hello Janis Yes, this is the right family with the correct children. This is about as far as I got as well (using the IGI and the George Bell Collection via GENUKI). Do you know if anyone has transcribed the records (partially or in their entirety)? And whether they would be available to view on-line, or to purchase on CD or fiche? It might be something in the setup of the user's program or some bug in the program itself. I do not know the solution to Sue's problem, and can only suggest that she change mail programs. I use Opera, which does not have this problem. Another to try might be Thunderbird. I am sure there are other mail client programs which would work. ... Martin
Hello I have recently carried out some detective work and deduced that my WALTON=CHISHOLM family married and baptised their first few children in Hexham before moving to West Hartlepool. Does anyone know if the HEXHAM church records have been transcribed at all and whether they are available on-line, CD or fiche? Unfortunately, I'm not local :-( Thanks Heather
Fascinating what you pick up reading emails on the list. Raich Carter was a relation of mine and now I know what school he went to. Many thanks. Just out of interest, I went to the Sunderland museum and they got out a box of artifacts that once belonged to Raich and got a private viewing. It was fantastic. Barbara
At Sunderland Local Studies Centre the great majority of the local parish registers are held on microfilm, as are the registers of the municipal cemeteries from 1856 to 1998. Regards Stan Mapstone

HI Sue, Do you mean you are subscribed to the list in Digest mode and can't open the individual messages within that Digest when it arrives?, this is the only kind of "attachment" that is allowed through the Rootsweb lists that I know of. If this is the problem you are having then ask the list admin. to put your digests in MIME format, the digests should then change to something like they used to be before Rootsweb upgraded their system last autumn. You will find the list admin address in the welcome message, as well as the unsubscribe instructions, that you will have received when you first subscribed to the mailing list. Failing having kept that welcome message then go to the rootsweb site, google for rootsweb mailing lists and find the DUR-NBL list in that way to get all of the information pertaining to this list. Thought I would try again with this census problem I have - Bowness HARRISON bn 1814 in Temple Sowerby, Westmorland, appears on the 1841 census and the 1861 census of Newcastle on Tyne, in 1841 with his brother John and family and in 1861 with his own wife and family. I cannot locate him at all in 1851 in either Westmorland, Cumberland or Northumberland. Bowness died in Penrith, Cumberland in 1869 and his wife Elizabeth died in 1884 in Penrith. I have located her in the 1871 and 1881 census records. Can someone with better eyes check to see if I've simply missed Bowness - the 1841 and 1861 entries for him follow. Thanks for the input I have emailed the HQ of the New Church after looking at their website http://www.generalconference.org.uk/ We have one christening at the New Jerusalem Chapel Ann Coulson ABBOTT on 19 Nov 1813 and I plan to take a look at the microfilm in T&W Archives when next there to see what the full entry states. The MI for her in Westgate Hill cemetery states died age 19 on 4 Aug 1833 Looks like her brother Robert could have been a minister with them ... He is one of the executors of Robert COULSON will in 1848/9 and ' Minister of the Gospel in Norwich. Robin -- Robin and Margaret McEwen-King Lanark Scotland
