    2. John and Polly were the grandchildren of John Dunsmoor of Lunenburg. He was I believe the Nephew of John Dunsmoor of Lancaster commonly referred to as Old Father in this forum. He is last heard from in 1740 when made in absentia a member of the Presbyterian Church , he was a follower of Mathew Clark, the circuit minister of Northern Ireland. I have more detail on this relationship and you can contact me directly if you wish. [email protected]

    2. Willilam D. Lindsey
    3. Dear Kay Lou, Am just re-reading your posting about Samuel DINSMORE who appears in Shantallow, Co. Donegal, on the 1765 Protestant householders' census. I have abstracted the following DINSMORE names from the list of freeholders in Co. Donegal, 1761-75, G.O. 442 (LDS film 0100181, item 1): David Dinsmore, living at Murrow, renting from Hadfield, 1761; John Dinsmore, Grahamstown, renting from Geo. Knox, 1761; Wm. Dinsmore, Ballymore, renting from W. Wray, 1761; Henry Dinsmore, Greenhills, from W. Wray, 1761; Wm. Dinsmore, Murrow, from W. Wray, 1761; Robert Dinsmore, Murrow, from W. Wray, 1761; Wm. Dinsmore, Grahamstown, from Geo. Knox, 1768; Saml. Dinsmore, Grahamstown, from Geo. Knox, 1768; Patrick Dinsmore, Upper Purt Island, from Hadfield, 1768; Samuel Dinsmore, Upper Ballymore, from Hadfield, 1768; Robert Dinsmore, Murrow, from ?; Pat. Dinsmore, Port Island, from ?; Henry Dinsmore, Greenhills, from ?; Abm. Dinsmore, Grahamstown, from ?. Murroe, Port, and Ballymore are all in Clondahorky Parish in the western side of Co. Donegal, Murroe being on the extreme western side of the county. Greenfields is in Convoy Parish the other side of the county to the south of Clondahorky. Grahamstown is in Drumhome Parish to the far south of Co. Donegal, near Fermanagh and Tyrone. Note that Fahan Parish, where Adam Dinsmore came from, is very near Murroe, being just to the northeast of it. I'm very interested in your information that your Adam DINSMORE was subletting land in Shantallow. Can you tell me more about that? Bill Lindsey

    3. To all to all the DINSMORE research, I'm looking for SAMUEL DINSMORE (DENSMORE), born around 1775. It is thought that he was born in what is now Saco or Scarboro, ME. He married Esther Harmon in 1798 in what is now Scarboro, ME. The certificate says Pepperellborough, MA. He died 2/5/1861 in DeWitt, Clinton County, Iowa. Yes, he is said he lived to be 106. We do not have a birth certificate to show proof of birth, only family stories. They had at least 4 children, three born prior to 1804 and Samuel who was born 5/29/1804. The other three were Mahalia, Ester, and Alvan. Anyone have any connection with the line of Samuel? 3. Hi, Just thought I would add to the Adam and David DINSMORE confusion. I am researching Adam DINSMORE who was born in 1778 in Ireland. He cannot be a son of the above mentioned Adam because that Adam was in the USA prior to 1778. My Adam Dinsmore married Grace DeBusk in Blount Co, TN(?) in 1806. He and his family moved to Vermillion Co, IN in the 1830's. Adam died in Vermillion Co IN in 1854. Can anyone give me information on this Adam Dinsmore? 3. Dear Charles and KL, Will be very happy to share information on Adam and David DINSMORE with you. I do think that there was a close relationship between Adam and David, and that they were possibly brothers, but don't yet have the relationship figured out. They moved to the same areas, and used the same family names. Note, too, that David's grandson David Lewis DINSMORE married Eleanor KYLE. Researchers of the line of Adam say that either Adam or his son Samuel sold land to a Samuel KYLE in Buncombe Co., NC. The mutual ties to the KYLE family also seem to indicate that these DINSMOREs are connected. The VA State Library website mentions correspondence from a 19th-century firm of DINSMORE and KYLE in Baltimore. Does anyone know about this? KL, to answer your question about how I found the ship's list for my David DINSMORE: at the time he came to SC, the state was giving 100 acres of land to each "poor Protestant" that came there, along with fifty acres for each other family member. This incentive was aimed at Northern Irish and Germans, in the hope that they'd settled the sparsely settled upcountry of SC and be a buffer between the lowcountry settlers and native peoples. As a result, the SC Council Journals record both the land grants, and the ships' lists of these immigrants. Once you locate the land grant, that leads to the citation in the council journals that will allow you to find the ships' list, which (in the case of David DINSMORE, at least) has all passengers' names and their ages. That citation also led me to a Charleston newspaper announcing that the ship "Earl of Donegal" had arrived on the date given in the council journals. J. Revill, A COMPILATION OF ORIGINAL LISTS OF PROTESTANT IMMIGRANTS TO SOUTH CAROLINA, 1763-1775 (Baltimore: Genealogical Publ. Co., 1968), transcribes many of these passenger lists. This all pertains to SC, of course. I don't know if there are similar resources for more northerly ports such as Baltimore and Philadelphia, through which Adam DINSMORE may have come. Hope this helps, and glad to share information, Bill Lindsey

    3. Am searching for ancestor detail from Charlestown, NH back to Scotland. History of Charlestown, New Hampshire 1st and 2nd editions show much detail. John Dunsmoor and Polly Sartell married and resided in Charlestown, NH in 1793 (Hemlock). Reference material indicates his Father was John of Lunenburg, Mass. Three branches of the family used different names; Dunsmoor, Dinsmoor, and Densmore. Ancestor reported as Lord John Dinsmore, of Achumeed, Scotland. Lord John purchased a large tract of land in north Ireland, Londonderry County and Londonderry, NH derived its name from his descendants. 2. Jim & kay Lou Dinsmore
    3. Dear William, It is possible that your David is related to one Adam Dinsmore, married to Elizabeth (possible maiden name, Jackson). If so, they came from Donegal...I am trying to follow a lead received from a correspondent in Donegal. There was a Samuel Dinsmore listed in the Protestant Householders Census (I think, 1765) for Shantallow. Shantallow is a district of Londonderry and close to where Adam and family were located in what is now the border of Burt Parish and Fahan Upper Parish. Adam sublet land there. This particular family carried the same family names from one generation to the next and had a son named David who was born in Buncombe County, NC, abt 1775. Your David may have been Adam's brother?! Adam and his son, James, went to the Mississippi Territory in the early 1800's. They settled in Morgan County, Alabama. Adam's son, David, did not go to AL but to Indiana, and he changed the spelling of the surname to Densmore. I have a question for you. We know that Adam and family came to Colonial America abt August, 1772, but I have not been able to find passenger records for this time period. How did you go about finding your ship information? I have tried, unsuccessfully, every resource I can find both on the internet and off. Thank you for any advice you can give. KL Dinsmore

    3. Dear Sharon, Thanks for your reply to my posting about David DINSMORE. About his son James: I have very little information about this son, and am not 100% certain that he is a son of David DINSMORE. He shows up on the 1840 census in Morgan Co., AL, not far from my DINSMORE family. But note that by this time, there was another DINSMORE family in Morgan Co., descending from Adam and Elizabeth DINSMORE, who emigrated from Fahan, the parish of Templemore, Co. Donegal, Ireland in 1772, and settled at Falkville, AL. James may be of this family, rather than David's. I do have definite proof that John DINSMORE was a son of David. The only child of his that I am certain of is David Lewis DINSMORE, b. 1803, Wayne Co., KY, d. Dec. 1888, Lawrence Co., AL. On 19 March 1833, he married in Lawrence Co., AL, Eleanor KYLE, daughter of William KYLE. This couple had children: Phebe (b. 1836); Mary Kyle (b. 1 Nov. 1837, Lawrence Co., AL, d. 17 Apr. 1867, Lawrence Co., AL; m. David Crockett GOODLETT); Esther (b. abt. 1840, Lawrence Co., AL, m. after her sister's death David Crockett GOODLETT); John (b. 1843, Lawrence Co., AL, died as CSA soldier in Corinth, MS); Henrietta (b. abt. 1846, Lawrence Co., AL, m. Wm. C. ROSAMUND); David F. (b. 1848, Lawrence Co., AL, d. 1935); and William Lewis (b. 19 Dec. 1851, Lawrence Co., AL, 29 March 1938, Decatur, AL, m. 25 May 1880 in Moulton, AL, Nannie Leigh WERT, d/o Michael WERT and Esther Caroline COWAN). Hope this helps a bit, Bill Lindsey

    1. [DUNSMOOR-L] Dunsmores in Lanark 1780-1820
    2. I have just gotten back from a day long seminar on "Seeking Clues to your Scottish Ancestor" and found out I have been making a big mistake by trying to trace only my direct ancestors. We were told it is very important to search out all information for all brothers and sisters also --- so here is my list --- can anyone connect or provide information on any of these Dunsmores? Husband: John Dunsmore b. 12/881782 in Barony, Lanark, Scotland Wife: Jean Gray b. 1784 - married 12/17/1803 in Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland Children as follows: John Dunsmore b. 12/30/1804 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland William Dunsmore b. 12/30/1804 (twin) (m. Janet Baird) Robert Dunsmore b. 1/25/1807 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland Janet Dunsmore b. 12/11/1808 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland (m. Robert Kelso) James Dunsmore b. 4/28/1811 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland John Dunsmore b. 5/6/1813 Old Monkland, Lanark, Scotland I believe the Janet Dunsmore/Robert Kelso line is still in Scotland The William Dunsmore/Janet Baird line came to USA about 1851 or so (my direct ancestors) Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated. The Dunsmores in this family were all colliers (so my research proves so far). And there seems to be many marriages between Bairds and Dunsmores. 3. Dear Dunsmoor Researchers, I'd be interested in corresponding with anyone working on a David DINSMORE, b. 1750, Ireland, died 1779, Spartanburg Co., SC. He and wife Margaret came to Charleston, SC, on 10 Dec. 1767, aboard the ship "Earl of Donegal" piloted by Duncan FERGUSON. Received land on Tyger River in Craven, later Spartanburg, Co., SC. David and Margaret DINSMORE had children James (d. 1840, Morgan Co., AL); John (b. 15 Sept. 1774, Craven Co., SC; d. 16 Dec. 1858, Lawrence Co., AL; m. Phebe [WOODRUFF?]); and Mary Jane (b. 1773, Spartanburg Co., SC; d. 10 March 1853, Oakville, Lawrence Co., AL; m. Mark LINDSEY). In 1800, Margaret and her children moved to Wayne Co., KY, where Margaret appears to have died. Later, the children all moved to Morgan-Lawrence Co., AL, where they settled near a DINSMORE family with Donegal roots. Will appreciate any information on this DINSMORE family. Thanks, W.D. Lindsey
