    1. [DUNSMOOR-L] New Resource at Rootsweb
    2. Gail Brown
    3. I just got this announcement and wanted to pass it along to you There is a new resource, Classified Ads Boards, that can now be found from a link on the cluster page for our surname. As you know the Cluster page serves as a navigation aid to all resources for our surname housed on RootsWeb. The Cluster page for the DUNSMOOR, DENSMORE, DINSMORE surnames can be found at: http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/d/u/DUNSMOOR/ http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/d/e/DENSMORE/ http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/d/i/DINSMORE/ You know that advertising (even when it can be helpful in our genealogical research) is generally not allowed on our mailing list and GenConnect boards. In an effort to help genealogists locate genealogical items, or list items being offered for sale, for example, out of print books you might be looking to sell or purchase, RootsWeb has created Classifieds at RootsWeb. These Classified Ad Boards work in the same way the GenConnect boards work and are only to be used for items of a genealogical nature pertaining to the surname shown on the board. These boards provide an outlet to help in our research for items that couldn't be properly listed elsewhere on RootsWeb. Enjoy them and use them to your best advantage!

    1. [DUNSMOOR-L] New Rootsweb Resource
    2. Gail Brown
    3. Now that you've all checked out the LDS www.familysearch.org - in you could get in :) Check out the latest at Rootsweb http://resources.rootsweb.com/surnames/ You can search for any surname and get a 'cluster' page of search engines for that surname. It's brand new, so there may still be a few bugs in the works, but this looks really great! In fact, there are some bugs with this surname. When I set up this mail list and the GenConnect message boards, I chose the old spelling of the name - DUNSMOOR. Because so many surnames have variant spellings, it was decided to open mail lists, etc., to each variant of the name. It's a little confusing, but you'll see what I mean when you visit the above URL. I still don't know exactly how the variants will be handled, but I'll try to adopt the message boards for DENSMORE and DINSMORE, too. And the new search engine for GenConnect http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/FamAssoc.html looks great, too. Just type in the surname you're researching, and it'll do a soundex search for it. There are still a few problems with the addresses for the DUNSMOOR boards, but they will be taken care of shortly, I'm sure. As always, I urge you to support Rootsweb - did you know that only 7% of the those who use RW actually offer financial support? For more info, please see http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/how-to-subscribe.html Happy hunting, Gail

    2. Has anyone been able to sort out the Dunsmores in Old Monkland, Scotland? I understand that they are descended from brothers: Robert Dunsmore who married Janet Provand in 1702 --- and John Dunsmore who married Christian Donald in 1710. I have been able to take my Dunsmores back to John Dunsmore b. 1782 who married Jean Gray b. 1784 --- but can go no further back. Any suggestions from out there? 3. My Old Monkland/New Monkland Dunsmores were descended from Henry Dunsmore, b abt 1770, and Margaret Marshall. They were in Torphichen, Linlithgowshire at the time their children were born. Believe they were likely from that area but I cannot confirm Henry's parents. 3. Sorry that I apparently jumped the gun on spreading the word about the LDS web site. I'd been reading about its coming for a couple of weeks and got the word, from another list, that it was up yesterday. This morning I got in, but the server was "too busy". Now, apparently they have closed the site to select Beta testers. This is probably not a bad thing. They will work out the bugs, then refine the system, before making it available to all. The final show may not be online for a few weeks/months, but I'll let you know when it happens. I'm not LDS, so have no inside knowledge, but it looks like it will be a great help to our online searching when it's finally online. Worth the wait! Gail
