One of my ancestors was a John Dunphy, son of James and Deborah Dunphy. On 27-5-1849 he married Alice Fitzgerald, at Swords, near Malahide. John and Alice had a daughter Anna on 2-7-1850 at Headford in Galway. Alice and Anna emigrated alone to Australia in 1854. It is not known why John Dunphy was not with them. Anna told her family John was a surveyor. Maybe he worked on the Griffiths Valuation. A John Dunphy is recorded in the townlands of Townpark, Tuam, in 1855.
