I know that Manhattan,Queens,Bronx,Staten Island,Brooklyn are all part of New York City. The information that my uncle had given me was that his father spoke in the irish tongue, that he was born in Ireland, came to Ellis Island with his two sisters and mom,and they lived some place in New York City.I know for a fact that my grandfather was married once before to a Young from Queens County. And,truely believe that her first name was Gertude. And,as much as I disbelieve in census records,in 1920's census record of Queens County,NY Gertrude is missing from the family and my grandfather was listed as the name Dumphy, with Caroline,Dorothy,Florence Young.Caroline was the d/o Catherine Ludwig of College Point,NY. My ggrandfather was Arthur Smith who married Lillian Garant. The family were all born in Canada.Arthur was part Inuit and Scotchman. My mom said that he was a tall red headed man.My ggrandmother later remarried to a Philip Knickerbocker. The family is originally from Saratoga,NY. My grandmother's side of the family were horse breeders and horse racers. My grandparents met in NJ,at Sinclair horse farm, where my grandfather worked. My grandmother's brother raced horses for a living at Saratoga Raced Tarck in NYS and in Bellmont.I assume that my grandmother and her brother went looking for a horse down there.December 1920,my grandparents married in NJ.
