I also have Dunphy/Dumphy surname in my family but I am no relation. I found a Louise Dunphy with a son Harold Dunphy born in 1912 in Alberta, Canada. Louise was born in Scotland in 1892. In 1943 she remarried and died in Pinellas County, St. Petersburg, FL in July of 1978. I also tracked the Dunphy on the SSDI who was born in 1894 and died in 1973 in Pinellas County, the one you might be referring to in your post. His middle initial was A. I have information on him but it does not indicate that he was born in Canada. He was born in New York. He moved all over the place but he and his wife (not Louise) both died in Pinellas County FL. She died in 1978. If you would like copies of all I have if this is the family you are looking for please get in touch with me. I also have Mr. Dunphy 1894-1973 parents names. Author: stetlaw77 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunphy/412/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My great grandfather was Harry Dunphy. I believe his middle initial was A. He either married or got a Louise or Louisa Christison pregnant while they were both in Alberta, Canada. Louisa/Louise did take on the last name of Dunphy. They had a son, Harold Edward Dunphy, in 1912 and moved down to St. Petersburg, FL when their child (my grandfather) was very little. Not long after that, Harry took off and no one saw him or heard from him again. I have just discovered that a Harry Dunphy lived and dies in Clearwater, FL and his age is appropriate to that of my great grandfather. The crazy thing is that my mother (his granddaughter) used to date a guy in Clearwater and this fellow lived 2 doors down from this Harry Dunphy. I imagine that was her grandfather. She says she wishes she had the courage to have gone and asked him back then, but she didn't. Harry died in 1973 and I am trying to find out any and all info I can. If you are a relative or happened to have known this man, ple! ase contact me! Thanks! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: TLBChicago1 Surnames: Croak, Croake, Croke, Shea, Mangan, Cleary, Lynch Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunphy/163.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Charlie: The baptismal record of Alice Croak says she was baptized on 7 Nov 1847 in Danesfort Roman Catholic Church in County Kilkenny. Her brother, the future Rev. Walter Croake buried in Janesville, Wisconsin, was baptized there on 30 Dec 1843. Their parents were Thomas and Margaret (Shea) Croake, and they lived in the Townland of Grove (Civil Parish of Tullaghanbrogue), which is 3.8 miles southwest of Kilkenny City. Thomas and Margaret were married in Danesfort RC Church on 23 Feb 1829. Margaret's residence at the time was "Ahenraheen," otherwise known as the Townland of Aghinraheen. On the May 1849 Griffith's Valuation, the family lived in the Townland of Coolapoge, which borders both Aghinraheen and Grove. One Croak researcher has suggested that Thomas was born in "Ballingarry," County Tipperary, and I have been looking for documentation of this. My ancestor John Croak [John Joseph Croake of Chicago, husband of Catherine Smith, daughter of Joseph], was a son of Thomas and Margaret (Mangan) Croak, who resided in Sheastown, which is 5.5 miles east of Aghinraheen, at the time of John's baptism on 18 Jan 1849 in St. Patrick's RC Church in Kilkenny City. On the 25 Apr 1876 tax assessment roll of Toronto, Ontario, Canada, John lived at 15 Dalhousie, a building owned by Michael Croake, who was baptized on 2 Sep 1842 in Ballingarry RC Church, County Tipperary, a son of Edmund and Ann (Cleary) Croke, of Mohober. On 18 Feb 1876, John's brother Peter [Pierce] was a baptismal sponsor at St. Paul's RC Church, Toronto, for Bridget Croake, daughter of James and Margaret (Lynch) Croake. James, who was baptized 26 Jul 1840 in Ballingarry RC Church and resided in Gragaugh, was Michael's brother. I am interested in exploring the connections of the Croakes of Ballingarry, Danesfort, and St. Patrick's further. Ted L. Dec 1890, that told of the death of an Andrew Dunphy from the provinces. He was employed by a Mr Palmer in the woods of Maine at a camp on Trout Brook when he was killed by a tree he was felling. His remains were carried to the Blackville area for interrment in the Dunphy Cemetery. A nephew working there on the same crew accompanied his body and the camp took up a collection for his wife and seven children, who possibly were living in the Blackville area. Does this fit your Andrew? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I'm curious to know his siblings and parents names and whether you might have any immigration stats. Does the property description match your ancestor? Blissfield is on the SW Miraimchi. So I'm curious whether your folks may have landed at the mouth of the Miramichi and traveled upriver, or moved up from St John. Would you know? Was my John Dunphy, b. 1816 (rumored at St John), a sibling of your Thomas? I may be able to assist with your search since it seems that I will need to track all the Dunphy families in early New Brunswick to find my ancestors. Perhaps a birth, or two after this approx. arrival? I have seen Dumphy spelling for 1850 Census at Gardiner, ME of my branch, but haven't found parents or siblings yet. Their children were Thomas bap Jan 1810 in Ballinakill Pat bap July 1812 in Ballinakill Rose bap Jan 1815 in Ballinakill Mary bap 9 April 1829 in Abbeyleix I descend from Mary who was sent from the Abbeyleix workhouse to Sydney, Australia on the William and Mary in 1849 as part of the Earl Grey Scheme. Does anyone have a connection with anyother of the Dunphy children mentioned? There are a couple of Pats and Thomas' in the shipping lists for US and Canada, but the dates of births aren't quite close enough, and only Ireland is mentioned, not their hometown, so I have no evidence to support they are the ones I am looking for. They may well have died during the famine, but Mary's mother was supposedly still alive when Mary was shipped off to Australia, according to a relative of mine who has seen the actual shipping records.
