He was born in Queens County, Ireland. Kay Decatur Daily Review, Decarur, IL July 12, 1899: "William Dunn, for forty-eight years a resident of Macon county, died at 5:15 am, Tuesday, July 11, at the family residence, 452 East Condit street. He had been in poor health for several months. He was born in Queens county, Ireland, Oct. 10, 1826, and came to America in 1851, first settling in Lowell, Mass. There he married Miss Anna Dempsey, who, with five children, survives him. The children are Edward Dunn of East St. Louis, Mrs. Edward Hogan and Peter, William and Miss Lillian Dunn of Decatur. Mr. Dunn was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and was held in highest esteem by all who knew him. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning from St. Patrick's Catholic church. Solemn high mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father J.H. Kelly. The interment will be at Calvary." The Daily Republican, Decarur, IL July 12, 1899: "The funeral of the late William Dunn, who died on Tuesday at his home, 542 East Condit street, will be held from St. Patrick's Catholic church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Solemn high mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father Kelley and the burial will be at Calvary cemetery. Mr. Dunn's death was caused by Bright's disease and he has been ill for some time past. His condition, however, had been improved and his death was rather sudden. The deceased was a native of Queen's county, Ireland, where he was born in October 1826. He came to Macon county 48 years ago, and until about 15 years ago lived on a farm near Mt. Zion. For 15 years he has lived a retired life, making his home in this city. He is survived by his wife and five children, Peter and William Dunn of Decatur, Mrs. Ed Hogan and Mrs. Lillie Dunn of Decatur and Edward Dunn of East St. Louis."
