Surnames: Dunn Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hlT.2ACEB/4030 Message Board Post: Hugh Dunn, Life Long Local Resident , Dead Hugh Dunn a resident of Marshall County all his life and resident of Marshalltown for 34 years, died at 2:35 O’Clock Wednesday afternoon at St. Thomas Hospital. Mr. Dunn had been in Failing health for a short period of time, having been confined to his bed but 4 days and at the hospital but 2 days, death was due to a carcinoma of the pancreas. Mr. Dunn was born near St. Anthony, April 2, 1859, a son of early pioneers of the St. Anthony neighborhood and the Dunn Settlement, all his life being spent in the country. He was a carpenter by trade but he retired several years ago. He was married January 8, 1884 to Miss Margaret E. Gannon, a St. Anthony girl, at Radcliffe. Soon after their marriage they moved to a farm north of St. Anthony and later moved to St. Anthony. Mr. & Mrs. Dunn were parents of 6 children. Mrs. Dunn and 2 children, Henry A. and Thomas B. Dunn preceded Mr. Dunn in death. The surviving children are James A. Dunn, Miami Fl.; Edward B. Dunn, Houghton Mich; Mrs. A.T. Larson, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Mrs. John D. Swab, of this city. Two sisters and 2 brothers, Mrs. C.W. Dunn, of St. Anthony, and Mrs. Anna Pierce, Oklahoma City, Okla and 9 grandchildren also survive. Mrs. Dunn passed away in this city, Aug. 20, 1914. The Dunn home here was at 917 S. Second Ave., where Mr. Dunn continued to live until 2 months ago, and had since made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Swab, at 121 N. Tenth St., At Christmas time last year, all the children were here for a family reunion. Mr. Dunn was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic church of this city. Funeral services will be held from the church at 9:30 o’clock Friday morning, in charge of Very Rev. William Leen. Burial will be in the Dunn Cemetery, north of St. Anthony.
