Hello Susan, I may have a few minor connections to your Dunns from Milltown, Kildare. My Herberts were from this area of Kildare, and the Dunn name is married into ours, as well as having numerous Dunns that were godparents and marriage witnesses. Here are a few possibilities. Thomas Herbert was b. 1860 in Allenwood or Mylerstown (a stone's throw from Milltown) to James Herbert and Ellen (or Eleanor)Dunne. Thomas' godparents were Bridget Fox and James Dunne. 2. Andrew Herbert, brother of the Thomas mentioned above, was b. 1864 in Robertstown (again, close by). His godparents were Eliz. Dunne and John Fox. 3. Longshot - my Catherine Herbert, b. 1874 in Kildare, m. in Brooklyn, NY, Michael Patk. Dunn. Michael was b. Nov. 1875 in the Republic of Ireland. I wouldn't be shocked if Michael was also from central Co. Kildare, as they met and married pretty shortly after Catherine's arrival here. They settled and raised their family in Newark, NJ. Michael came to the U.S. in 1881 or 1883 and was a Newark policeman. 4. Margaret Herbert, probably b. in Mylerstown, dau of Thomas Herbert and Rosanna O'Toole was b. 1895. Her godparents were Philip Dunne and Kate Fox. 5. Margaret Herbert, another dau of Jas. Herbert and Ellen or Eleanor Dunne mentioned in 1 & 2 above, was b. 1862. Her godparents were Michael Fox and Terese Dunne. 6. Richd. Herbert, b. 1850 of Allenwood, Kildare, son of Jas. Herbert and Mary Brady, had godparents Jas. Dunne and Anne Flood. 7. Thos. Herbert, brother of Richd. In 6 above, b. 1852, of Allenwood had godparents Jas. Dunne and Alicia Brady. 8. Catherine Hillibert (Herbert)b. 1886 to Michael Hillibert and Magt. (Mary) Mulhall, prob. of Robertstown, had godfather, Andrew Dunne. 9. Mary Ennis, b. 1834 to Mary Harbert (Herbert) and an unknown Ennis, of Milltown, had godparents Dan Kenny & Mary Dunn. Mary Ennis was baptized Apr 12, 1834 in Allen Church. 10. The brother of Mary Ennis above, Michael Ennis, was b. 1835 and his godparents were also Dan Kenny & Mary Dunn. William Dunn, son of William Dunn and Ellen Neill, was born around September 26, 1841 in Milltown, County Kildare, Ireland. He had a number of brothers and sisters born in Ireland: James, born around 1844 Eliza, born around 1846 Christopher, born around 1849-died before 1857 Thomas, born around 1854 John, born around 1855 and at least two born in Smithfield (later incorporated into Woonsocket), RI Christopher, born around 1858, married Johanna Griffiths in 1876 and eventually settled in Worcester, MA Dennis, born around 1860 Ellen and the children emigrated to the US aboard the ship Thornton, arriving in New York on August 24, 1857. The elder William was not with them; I think he came ahead of them. William served in the 4th and 7th RI infantry in the Civil War, as did James. On August 14, 1865, at St. Charles Church in Woonsocket, RI, William married Catherine Rourke, also of Milltown, County Kildare. Their children included: Ellen "Nellie" (1869-1921), who married Louis Lavoie Annie M. (1871-1946) Catherine A. (1873-1951) Elizabeth G. "Lizzie" (1875-1920), who married Leonard Marion Guertin (1877-1946) James Charles (1877-?)... I've also seen him listed as Charles James Theresa J. (1880-1899) William's father, also William, was born around 1820 and Ellen Neill was born around 1826. Any information about William and Ellen Neill Dunn or about their descendants would be welcome!
