The subject James Dunn was born at Mary Ann's Furnace on the Maryland-Pennsylvania border - the son of one William Dunn and Sarah (Sallie) McKinstry. William was born in 1740 in "Enniskillen" Ulster Ireland - and died in April of 1806 in Lycoming Co, PA (a part which later became Clinton Co, PA.) Sallie McKinstry was his first wife, and he married second Margaret (McClelland) Harrison. THIS William Dunn was also referred to as "William Dunn of The Great Island" -- so named because of the 300 acre island which he purchased directly from Chief Newahleeka of the Delaware Indians in 1769. That Island was located in the Susquehanna River at the mouth of Bald Eagle Creek -- just east of the town of Lock Haven. He also purchased land on the northern shore of the river opposite the island where he developed the town of Dunnsburgh or Dunnstown. There is a very good genealogy which was written on him and his descendants by one Bjorn Lamborn -- and published by the Crawford Co, PA Genealogical Society. about 1993. I am sure that if you contact them, they could tell you how to obtain a copy. Check the Crawford Co, PA GenWeb site. There is also quite a lot of info on other rootsweb/genweb sites. This James is NOT my line! I just ran across him while searching for my own Dunn family.
