Assuming that the above is accurate (and I certainly have no reason to doubt it), I SUSPECT (albeit, no proof) that this unknown Mr. Jones and Winifred Dunn were the parents of the James Jones who married Rachel Young in Essex Co., VA (that marriage was probably circa-1760s, since Rachel was born in 1741). Note: Rachel Young was a daughter of Henry Young and Rachel Smith, and Rachel Young had a brother who was named Smith Young....among many other siblings. I also SUSPECT that the above James Jones and Rachel Young had a daughter of their own who was named Winifred Jones, and that this daughter "became" Mrs. Winifred Bennett (who we know named her own son Smith Bennett). Do you know what the SOURCE is that shows that Winifred Dunn did, in fact, marry an unknown Mr. Jones? Has anyone ever suggested just who that Mr. Jones MIGHT have been? Mrs. Winifred (Jones?) Bennett also had a daughter who was named Mary Bennett, and Mary married a John Brown in 1805. This strongly appears to have been the same overall Brown family as the much earlier Henry Brown "I" (who died in Essex about 1734) who had married Keziah Jones...Keziah was a daughter of an "early" Richard Jones (born 1600s) in the area. In addition, the above John Brown who married Mary Bennett also appears to be a member of the same overall Brown family as the Caty Brown who married a much later man who was also named Richard Jones (this marriage was in Essex Co., VA in the early-1800s, and I suspect that this Caty Brown was a sister of the above John Brown who married Mary Bennett). I wonder if this much later Richard Jones in Essex Co., VA was a son or grandson of James Jones and Rachel Young, and/or a descendant of Mrs. Winifred (Dunn) Jones? Speaking of the above Brown family, the Henry Boughan who witnessed the will of William Dunn, Senior was married to a Miss Brown from this same overall Brown family, and the Amb. (Ambrose) Jones who also witnessed the will was an apparent son of the older Richard Jones (born 1600s) mentioned above (i.e., the father of Mrs. Keziah (Jones) Brown). In closing, it strongly appears that the above John Brown who married Mary Bennett, as well as the above Caty Brown who married the later Richard Jones, were children of an older John Brown who married Mary Kidd (John and Mary married by at least 1785). That older John Brown deeded land in Essex Co., VA in the early-1800s to a Mrs. Jane (Gatewood) Dunn, and Jane was the widow of Thomas Dunn. MAYBE Jane was out of the William Gatewood who also witnessed the will of William Dunn, Senior. Note: Around 1830 or so, there was a young man named Kemp Gatewood who was taken-in by a Brown family in Essex Co., VA. I never have found any Gatewood researcher, however, who is certain as to whose son this boy was (though the Gatewoods and Kemps had intermaried earlier, as I recall). Comments on any of the above? Thanks. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.
