    3. Hi I am now to this list , Please!!! Can anyone help me find my great-great grandparents - my brickwall: DUNN : DUNN, James William, born about 1850 (I think) died (of TB?) before 1903. Wife Mary Jane, (b. 1853, maiden name and place unknown -later remarried Geo. BALCH, of Somerset (no issue). & died Honiton, Devon, 1945 aged 91.) If my great great grandmother married aged about 21, then the marriage would have been about 1874 and the children must have been born 1870-80's. Dunn children (the birth order is not clear) : Maude DUNN never married. I think she was the eldest child. Thomas DUNN, petty officer Royal Navy (possibly) Joseph DUNN (I have a scanned image of him in a uniform c 1914 which I cannot identify - maybe ferry boat/merchant officer. Willing to send to anyone who may be able to help identify it.) William DUNN Louisa DUNN (married Alfred WATTS lived in Wiltshire), Elizabeth Mary DUNN (b. about 1882). I believe Thomas DUNN was in the Royal Navy and afterwards became a West Country publican in the 20thC. He and his brother William DUNN had maritime connections. There is talk in the family that Tom, with William or Joe lived in Rhode Island for a time. William DUNN married and had at least two children, Mary and Gordon. Sadly, Gordon was killed in the London Blitz during WWII. Elizabeth Mary DUNN is my great-grandmother. She married James William DENNING Parish Church Holy Trinity in Bristol in 18 Feb 1903. Living at 17 Charleton Street Bristol. Her brother Joseph DUNN stood as witness. Elizabeth and James later lived in South Wales, where Elizabeth died aged approx 64 years in 1945 and her husband in 1951. My problem is I have not been able to find any James William and Mary Jane DUNN on the UK 1881 census with the children I have named as theirs. I have no idea where any of them were born - clues I was given as to Mary Jane being a publican's daughter from Eccles, have so far proved inconclusive. I believe there are several places named Eccles in the UK Lancs, Kent and the Scottish Borders, but I have had no luck so far. The only clues I have are from my great grandparents wedding certificate from 1903, naming her father, 'James William Dunn, Labourer - deceased' and my great-great grandmother Mary Jane Balch's death certificate from 1944. Mary Jane was born in 1853, so I am assuming James Wm. DUNN was born about 1850, although of course he could have been older. I am beginning to wonder whether he was a soldier/salior or merchant and was overseas in 1881 possibly with his family. Does anyone recognise any of these names? When I can access it, I hope the 1901 census will help.......;)! Until then any help greatly appreciated..... Lisa Scotland.
