The will of Hugh Dunn, d. May 22, 1781, Stow Creek, Cumberland County, NJ, who was married to Amey Sutton lists their children as: Amey Dunham, Samuel, Zurviah Barratt, Keziah Ayars, Mary Riyel, and Sarah Davis, and Hugh. I know that Keziah Dunn married Joseph Ayars, 1738. I don't have a marriage for Samuel, and only the married surnames for the other girls. In Cushing and Sheppard's "History of Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland Counties", I found this: "The Seventh-Day Baptist Church of Shiloh. ....Their numbers were also increased by additions from Rhode Island, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and from Trenton, Bonhamtown, and Piscataway, N.J. The following were constituent members: John Swinney, Dr. Elijah Bowen, John Jarman, Caleb BARRATT, Hugh DUNN, Jonathan DAVIS, Jr., Caleb AYARS, Jr., Joseph Swinney, Samuel DAVIS, Jaen Phillips, of Newton Square, PA, Deborah Swinney, Deborah Bowen, Abigail BARRATT, Amy DUNN, Esther DUNN, Deborah Swinney, Jr., Ann DAVIS, Anna Swinney." After Hugh died, his wife Amey married Caleb Ayars in 1760. Is Caleb related to her daughter's husband, Joseph Ayars? I would think that Zuviah and Sarah married into the Barratt and Davis families listed above. Has anyone found information on this? In H. Stanley Craig's "Salem Co. Marriage Records" I found the marriage of William RIAL and Sarah DUNN, June 3, 1801. I've seen RIAL also spelled RIEL and RIYEL. Anyone know if this RIAL family is connected to Mary Dunn Riyel? Then, of course, is the mystery of who the son of Amey and Hugh, Hugh Dunn, married. All I've figured out is this: If you read his will, he had all his children before he would have married Rachel Moore in 1758, if, indeed he is the Hugh Dunn who married Rachel Moore. His will lists his wife as Abigail, so he must have married a third time. He is NOT the Hugh Dunn who was married to Abigail CARMAN. They were cousins. So all I have for this Hugh is he married (1) Unknown, (2) Rachel Moore?, (3) Abigail. I've yet to find any records besides the marriage of a Hugh Dunn to Rachel Moore. If anyone has any clues or ideas, I'd sure like to hear them.
