Author: Samuel_Dunn Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/6462.2.2.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Okay, Now its getting weird. Come to find out my father was married before he married my mother. He never divorced his first wife. So his marriage to my mother was basically void. I wonder why I was never told that. So many things I was never told for some reason. On his death bed he filed for divorce so we (the children) could get his social security benefits. That's what one of my sisters told me. I was about 10 years old when he passed. Oh yeah...my sister said his first wife's name was Bettye or Betty also. Back in the day, they use to publish divorce filings. She said everyone thought it was from my mother but come to find out it was from his first wife named Bettye. Not sure what to make of that. Seems odd to have two wives named Bettye. However, she said his parents (my grand parents on fathers side) were named Samuel and Katherine or Katy. You seem to suggest that's not the case. That its two other sets of names. I think that's odd also. I tend to believe what you are telling me. My sister also knew about the two birthdays he had. She theorized it was so he could marry my mom. So if you have any info on an Andrew James Dunn with parents named Samuel and Katherine or Katy that would be appreciated. Unfortunately, I feel my siblings are keeping things from me for some reason. Which is incredible since I'm 40 years old. Everything is such a big secret and I'm determined to find out why that is. My grandfather, John Edward Dunn, was from Dundalk, Ireland. His parents were John Patrick Dunn and Mary Smith, each born in about 1800. Supposedly, John Patrick migrated to Liverpool, England after his wife died in childbirth giving birth to my grandfather who was born in 1827. My mother was Kyde Minerva Dunn, born in 1902, the last of 14 children. How far back have you been able to go with your ancestry? By the way, parish records indicate that John Patrick Dunn spelled his last name DUNNE. I live in San Angelo, Texas, but was raised in Norfolk and Arlington, Virginia. Let me know if I can help. I've heard the Cherokee rumors before also and am trying to verify this. I do have one ancestor with the middle name "Crow" which to me could be a Native American name. Please feel free to check out my family tree and I will be happy to contact you if I do find out anything. I never had the chance to meet your father but my mother remembers him. She said that she always called him Brother and Aunt Myrtle was called sister. I met Aunt Myrtle years ago at my Grandfather Bill's funeral. I've also met Amos who I believe passed away and Andrew. You're not talking me to death, I think it's neat to find long lost family members. Especially since I really don't know many on Grandfather Bill's side of the family. I was fortunate to know my Aunt Molly Neeley who was born Della Proctor, she was Zora Proctor's youngest sister if that helps any. Hope you have a great day!! Yes, I just found this thread, 3 years later, and two years after I started my search for my lost Dunn family. I was orphaned at 4 in Ambridge,Pa., and adopted at 5 by a step-father who did not wat me to know my family. well, 54 years later - I showed him! I joined Blair Co. Gen. Soc., after I learned that my great-grandfather Thomas H. (or "R") Dunn (born 14 Oct 1855 in Hollidaysburg of Wm. and Magdalena Dunn - died Dec 1943 in Ambridge). BCGS helped me prove that Wm. indeed founded his rather tragic First family there at least as early as 1936. I also have some church records from there and have traced a few of his 16, or 17, children. I also think I have some tie-ins with the Sennengers (changed to Singer), and to Magdalena's (nee Fogel/Bird) first german born son = Roman. I will eventually be compiling this all to give to BCGS but will be glad to share my findings with others on this thread.
