When he quit the sea, he was in Philadelphia with a wife and 3 children. Oldest was a boy named Joseph, I don't know the 2 girls names. He also had 3 brothers, unknown names. When he left Philadelphia after his wife and daughters died, the brothers went to Georgia; John C and son Joseph went to Nansemond Co. Virginia where he married Charlotte Williams, daughter of John and Aramenta Williams, and they had a son, John Cartwright Dunn (Jr). The father John C (sea captain)died when John C Jr was 1 month old. I have no idea what happened to Joseph - he was probably about 8 when his father died in 1804. Charlotte sent Joseph back to Philadelphia when he was maybe 12-13 to find some property John C Dunn Sr had there, but he was too young to know how to look so he came back empty-handed. Charlotte died when John C Dunn,(Jr)was about 12 and he was apprenticed to someone in Nansemond Co, then later went to Ala! bama where he married Nancy Mozelle Stanley and ended up in Texas. I have the story from there, just not the first part with John C Dunn, Sr. Does anyone know any of the info surrounding the sea captain, the family in Philadephia, John C Dunn's brothers, or the older son Joseph Dunn? This is my grandfather and grandmother, Dutch and Ruby, and my dad, Don which you are writing about. Don Dunn (my father) died in July or June of 1979. He married Mary Ann Plank and had 2 sons, MIchael Wendell b. 1969 (thats me) and Patrick Dale b. 1970. My grandparents also had 2 other children, Ruby Jeannine and another boy who died in his 20's I believe in a car accident. He had a severe learning disability. Ruby Jeannine (my aunt) went by Je'Nene, and married Don Enderle in 1971. She just recently passed away this year Feb. 11, 2009. My grandmother, Ruby, passed away a few years ago, but I don't have the exact date - somewhere around 2000 or 2001. You've got me a little choked up here because I've been searching for a couple of years now as to where in Ohio my grandfather was born. Thanks so much for this - a great clue for sure. My late grandmother Annie (Sophia) Dunn (maiden name Lewis) she had a relation who once upon a time lived in the Hove area of Brighton, and I got in touch with the Schul and they gave me her ex husbands phone number in Hove and I contacted him, and he told me that his ex wife Elizabeth Conway had moved to south africa, and then she moved to Florida and now lives in california she must be in her 80's or so now. But of this ancestor who lived in hull, in either the area of myton or holy something like that, I will have to find this information and send it to you. But my late grandfather solomon frank dunn who was married to Annie (Sophia) his father was called Abraham and he was a rabbi back in russia or lithuania I suppose. Have you looked on the Jose Gustein.com site he is based in florida, usa, and he has been doing the Dunn/Donn/Don site, and he has found out a lot of information on them. Also my dad married out the faith, and of course as you know it didnt go down very well, which is such a shame, but I have half jewish blood in me which I am proud of. And also he never mentioned anything about his family to me, as when you are a child you never ask questions. But it is only what my mum has told me. So now I have been reading books on A History of the Jews The Jews of Britain 1656-2000 which is an interested read. And since I have been doing our family on both sides of my family, I have found cousins some of who I never knew existed. At the moment I have started a home learning course on British Social and Economic History 1700-1900. Yesterday I went out on a coach trip with 3 friends from my club to these gardens and outlets, and I met up with some americans who were over from Utah which was nice. If I hear anything from my relations in queens i will let you know. Regards Elaine Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. This Maddox family had two sets of twins that I know of. One set, the oldest boys were Dean & David Maddox probably born around 1952-3. They had several children and I'm afraid the only other name I seem to recall is Sarah. Thier children were removed by the Indiana welfare department in the early 60's. My family name is Dunn, and they did come from Lithuania. The furthest back I can go is Emanuel Dunn. He hwas my great-great-grandfather. He had two sons, at least which I know of. Simon and Charles. They did go to London. Simon married my great-grandmother, Rebecca/Revela Romanofsky. They were 1st cousins. When they came to London in the late 19th century, around 1890's I believe, they met up with Simons cousins who were already establshed there. Brothers Harris and Lazarus/Lazerus Dunn. Harris was ran Grocery Business in the West End of London. He had three sons and daughter, Millie. Lazarus Dunn was a Master Tailor. He married Annie. Lazarus mother may have been Fanny. Lazarus and Annie had 5 children by 1901. Benjamin, David, Millie, Marcus and Kate. My great-grandfather Simon Dunn worked for his cousin, but hated it. He and his wife and young family upped sticks, aloing with two other families, the Poirier's and the Levy's and went in search of fortune in Puntas Arenas, on the southernmost tip of Chile, South America. They stayed for about 11 years. The Poiriers went on to California, the Levys to New York and the Dunns back to London, hoping to reseetle in California. But WW1 broke out. They stayed put here. Some did later moved to New York. Simons brother Charles did. He married out of the relgion, but had one son. His son had three sons. One of the brothers, the youngest moved back to London, UK. He had three sons, Lou, Morry and Woofe (Will) and one daughter. He died young and two of the sons were brought up in the Jewish orphange. The daughter, Debbie married out. My great-great-grandfather, Emaunel Dunn was married three times. First he got a "Get", a Jewish divorce, because of no children. Second time my great-great-grandfather was born, along with a sister, later who died in infantcy. His wife died at 27. He would then later marry for a third and final time. This time to Riva Abelsson. He was 45 and she was 19. Simon Dunn told one of his daughters, my late great-aunty Mary (Ana Maria Dunn, born in Chile) and the source of much of this valuable information that the stepmother did not treat him very well, so he ran way from home, but apparantly connected up years later. Mary met the stepmother, who lived to be close to 100 when she visited New York in between August and October 1937. She also met her aunts and uncles. Perhaps you are the descendant of one of those aunts and uncles? Get back to us if you can.... Cheers Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. AL) and they had 8 children: George Wesley, Emma Lee, Sanford Andrew, Charles Emmett, James Thomas Jr., Mary Lucretia, Cecil Clyde and Ernest Carl. Emma Lee was my grandmother; in 1906 she married Charles Alva O'Neal (b 1884, Russell Co. AL) in Sanford AL. I copied this information from my grandmother's old bible back in the 50s. In searching for Wesley and Dorcas I found an 1860 census for Wilcox Co listing Wesley and Dorcas Dunn (both 30) with children Leman, Jackson, Sarah and Jane (or James) with a Mason family. The writing was hard to read. I also came across an 1870 Census for Wilcox Co listing an E.W. (48) and Dorcas (45) Dunn with children William, Thomas, Benjamin, David, Frances, George, Maggie and Julie. This same family is found in the 1880 census for Conecuh Co. with tha addition of! Samuel and a nephew and mother (after reading your post, I think she is Phadran). E.W. and Dorcas are also found in the 1900 census for Butler Co. with two daughters and three grandchildren. The 1900 census for Conecuh Co shows Thomas Dunn (James Thomas) and Martha with 6 of their children plus Martha's mother and brother. Questions: Could E. W. be Elise Wesley and could this be my Wesley? Is his Thomas my James Thomas, who apparently was known as just Thomas? If these aren't the same people then does any of this ring a bell? Where does the "1860 Wesley and Dorcas" fit in? Their names are right but the names Leman and Jackson don't square. Anyway, your post was the first I've read that seemed to offer any information on these Dunns of mine. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However some may well have moved there at some point, that I do not know of. The only thing that does connect my side of the Dunn family to Wales, is Cardiff. In fact, my father's cousin, Warner Kenton, former Warner Kritz moved there from London in the early 1960's to practice as a dentist.
