As my Grandfather on my mother's side of the family was Willie Dunn and I have traced my family back to John William Dunn in Cork. I would appreciate being allowed to access the site in order to see if I can gather further information. Thank you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My ancestor is John H Dunn son of Hannah Kimble born in West Milford NJ in 1848. I have anecdotes that he is the son of Oscar Dunn, and is even mentioned in his will. Does anyone else have any kind of information to this effect? Or better yet, does anyone have a scanned will for Oscar Dunn that I could look at myself? It shows details of Samuel's birth, that if his siblings and those of his parents. There is not a marrige record but that simply means that he did not marry in Ringaskiddy. Where in th eworld are you located? Most of us are in the UK (including me) with some in Canada and New England. If your granmother went to the US you may be able to obtain her immigration papers which will hold some useful data. He is the only Samuel Dunn from the area of the right age who features in the Navy archive. The Uncle Samuel you mention could be the Samuel in my records. His date of birth was 01 march 1829 which could have made him 79 in 1911 depending on the date the cencus was taken. His brother (my ancestor) born 25 dec 1831 was a coastguard and he was born and died in Ringaskddy. I even found his headstone in the cemetery. Being employed by the Navy is strong pointer to a connection. Have you tried to locate Samuel's naval record on the UK National Archive? If your gransmother was a dunn and a niece then it would be interesting to see if her parents were called Thomas, Daniel or David who were the sibblings I have listed for my Samuel. Let me know what you turn up. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you're referring to the Dunn DNA Project website, here's a link: http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/dunn It has a Results page displaying the YDNA results for Dunn males and a Patriarchs page with some family trees. I encourage all male Dunns to consider doing the YDNA test as that can help sort out ancestry connections. Author: dotlynking Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/825.1826/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am looking for John Cartwright Dunn, a seaman from England. At one point in late 1700s, I believe he and his 3 brothers lived in Philadelphia. He had a wife and 3 children (boy, Joseph, and 2 young girls). After wife & daughters died, John Cartwright Dunn and son Joseph went to Nansemond Co, Va. His brothers moved to Georgia. In Nansemond Co, Va, John Cartwright married Charlotte Williams, daughter of John and Aramenta Williams, and they subsequently had a son born John Cartwright Dunn (Jr) in 1804. One month later, John C Dunn Sr died. Charlotte raised the step-son Joseph and son John C Jr, but died when John C Jr was 12. I do not know what happened to Joseph, but John C Jr ended up in Alabama where he married Nancy Mozelle Stanley and they then moved to Texas. Might this family be part of your research?
