Mr & Mrs Dunn were killed in an unknown accident, between 1895-1899, and their children were searated and sent to strangers for adoption. They had 2 young boys and a baby girl (possibly others). Their son, Fredrick Herman Dunn, was born Oct. 15 1890 in Galatia, IL. He was sent to Olmsted County, MN where he was adopted by Sebert & Elma Leonard. Their other son, Glenn Ray Dunn, was born Nov. 16, 1893 in Galatia, IL. He was sent to Spring Valley, MN where he was adopted by Jerome & Georgianna Stevens. I have no information on the baby girl or other children. I'm uncertain why the boys were sent to Minnesota - an "orphan train" or the Methodist Church may have been involved. My husbands great grandfather was John Dunn who was born ca. 1800 in Ireland. He was married to Mary Desmond. They had a son, John. According to John, jr.'s obit, he was born in Limerick ca. 1828, came to America as a boy, settled in NY and later came west. I don't know if his parents came to America with him, or names of any siblings. I would like to talk to you more about this probable connction as I live in Oshkosh which is only 10 miles from Omro. It's possible that your John born in 1803 is the father of my John, jr. Jean Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Yes, her parents were born in Ireland. I do not know where. I do know they came to NY and that is where Nellie was born. Somehow she came to be living with Margaret and William Durfee who are from Oshkosh. The Durfees have a family plot where William is buried and 2 of the children who died in 1903 of Typhoid Fever, along with prior generations of Durfees. Margaret(??) Durfee was also born in NY. In all the family trees I have seen for the Durfees, and they have researched extensively, no one seems to know Margaret's maiden name. My hunch is that she might be a Desmond or a Bennett, and that is how Nellie and my grandmother, Margaret, came to be living with them in Prentice, WI in 1900. Too many coincidences ( connections) not to mean something. Any thoughts? Any other info on your Mary? Thanks, Robbin Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. All I know is she was married to John Dunn. Their son, John was my husband's great grandfather who was born ca. 1825 in Limerick, Ireland and came to NY when he was a boy, ca. 1835. I don't know if his parents came with him or if he had siblings. There are so many John Dunns in the census' and passenger lists at that time that it's hard to sort them out, not knowing anything about his family or exactly when he was born and came to America. His obit only gives info that he was born in Limerick, came to NY as a boy, came west and settled in Oshkosh about 1863. John,jr. and his wife, Mary Dewitt and most of their children are buried in Riverside Cem. in Oshkosh. Do you know if Nellie or her parents were born in Ireland? Was she related to the Durfee's? Many thanks-Bob-- my interest mainly is in the parentage of one James Dunn (1734-1805), who married Agnes Agnew (1740-1815). Their origins in this country may have begun in Pa.(?Lancaster county).. moved into Va., thence to Western N. C, and finally to S.C.(Abbeville Co.)at Donalds. Some may have moved on from S.C. to ? Ky. or Texas. Pa. seems to be the first semipermanent move upon entering this country. I have names of their decendants down to me if you are interested. Nellie married John Bennett about 1898-1899. She was living with the Durfee family in Wisconsin in 1900. The Durfee family is from Oshkosh and have a family plot there. I'm a direct descendent of John May. Recipient of a Mexican land grant in Dewitt's colony 1835. He donated land to the City of Yoakum, The SAAP railroad, and the Catholic Church for a Church, School and Graveyard. The Catholic Church sold this property out right. All deeds show this reference of the School Graveyard and Church. John May is reference in Historical Markers in Yoakum, Lavaca County. My problem is with his grave sight, or lack there of. It is mentioned at the Yoakum libary as Supplejack Cemetery. I was showed the cemetery. There are only three gravestones, (turned over and broken) none of witch is John May. I am told that there is as many as 20 to 25 Graves here. These are out in a brushy pastor. The land owner told me that I could come and go there at any time. What I need to know is what my next step should be to fix this disgraceful problum Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
