Is MS Mississippi? I have an Edna G. Dunn, shown in the 1900 census in Mississippi. She was my maternal grandmother. She was shown in the 1900 census for MS as being a toddler, and living with her grandmother. She married Jess or Jesse Miller, and by 1920, she had one daughter, Edna Marguerite and Edna was pregnant with my mother, Millie I. Miller, born (we think) 18 May 1920. They were in Hamlin Jones Co. TX, and later moved (about 1929 or 1930) to Long Beach CA. I've never met my maternal aunt, Edna Marguerite Miller. If anyone knows of her, or her children, I would love to be in touch. ----- Original Message ----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com To: DUNN-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Saturday, December 12, 2009 2:47 PM Subject: Re: [Dunn] Dunns in Columbia Co. Author: tunnelm1 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.dunn/6307.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Per other posts, it appears that William Dunn and Winifred Waters in Essex Co., VA were the parents of the Winifred Dunn who married an unknown Mr. Jones. I strongly suspect that the James Jones who married Rachel Young of Essex Co., VA was a son of the above unknown Mr. Jones and Winifred Dunn. I also strongly suspect that the Mrs. Winifred Bennett (born 1765-1770) was born Miss Winifred Jones, and I believe that she was a daughter of James Jones and Rachel Young. Mrs. Rachel (Young) Jones was a daughter of Henry Young and Rachel Smith, and Mrs. Winifred Bennett's daughter, Mrs. Mary (Bennett) Brown, apparently took-in an "orphaned Smith infant toddler" who was a member of the above overall Smith family (this was around 1817-1819). In 1802, an unknown John and Mary Smith purchased land in Essex Co., VA from a John and Judith Dunn. Does anyone know the parents of this John Dunn (and/or the parents or maiden name of his wife Judith)? How was this John Dunn "connected" to the Thomas Dunn who died in Essex Co., VA sometime before 1820 and who had married Jane Gatewood? Thanks. In addition, in 1827 in Essex, a Christopher T. Browne became the guardian of a boy/man who was named Kemp Gatewood, and it appears that a Barrett or Barnett Brown provided the surety for this guardianship. Based on a lot of research, it does NOT appear that the above Christopher and Barrett/Barnett were from the same "blood related" Browne/Brown family...but these two Browne/Brown families were obviously "closely associated" with one another. It appears that Barrett/Barnett Brown was a grandson of the above-referenced John Brown (John Brown had apparently married Mary Kidd in Essex Co., VA by at least 1785). The above John Brown had purchased 125 acres in Essex Co., VA...adjacent to Hoskins Creek...from Silas Mercer Noel around 1813....so the above land that John Brown sold to Mrs. Jane (Gatewood) Dunn was probably that same land. In searching for Dunn family geneology--PLEASE INDENTIFY THE AREA ,STATE,COUNTY OR TOWN. Dunns are scattered everywhere !! My interest is in the Pa.(?Lancaster co.), Virginia. and S.C. areas. The migration occured sometime in the early 1700s--on upward. --- James Dunn (1734-1808), Northern Ireland -married Agnes Agnew (12 May-1740-1815) from Pa.. They lived there , and married in S.C., migrating from ?Virginia-?N.C.--.S.C. (Abbeville Co.) ,near Donalds --and either Dunns Creek or Turkey Creek. It appears they are both the same creek. My fathers side at least settled near the Greenwood co.--Donalds area. James and Agnes both are buried in the Greenville Presbyterian Church cemetery at Donalds. This is now Abbeville County I believe. I have seen both their graves. I have not as yet documented the other Dunns buried there, but there are several ,including one Dr. Andrew Dunn. As soon as I can make a return trip to the Church--I shall report what info. I have--if interested contact me at Doc_dink@bellsouth.net. ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <DUNN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, December 07, 2009 11:30 AM Subject: [Dunn] Margaret E Dunn m. Yes, I have records showing where Drury bought numerous parcels of land in Choctaw County, Al in 1853. There are records showing that he owned slave in Choctaw Cty and he and Elizabeth, his wife, were in the census in 1850 and 1860. Also, thely were in the church records in the 1850's and the probate record were he died in 1862. My Bolin moved from Anson County, NC 1857 to Choctaw Cty, AL. According to census records his children were all born in Anson County start in 1829. We can not prove without a doubt that Aaron Dunn was Bolin's father, but there are many documents that are persasive that Aaron is Bolin's father. This Aaron would be grandson of John and Lucy (Bolling) Dunn. Please let me know if any of this information is familar to you and your tree. I would love to find another connection to this family. Thank You, Terry Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
