I have it that their father is Thomas Dunn (b 1766 in NC, d 1814 Johnston, NC). Thomas, the son, appeared in the 1850 census of Chambers Co., AL. This line of the Dunn family remained in Chambers Co or Randolph Co., through the birth of my mother who was a Dunn. I would love to talk with anyone that has info on this line. Dunn in Amherst Erie N.Y. in 1850 and then in Clarence in 1860 and 70. HIs children have same names as Jonas children although all are older. I think this is more than a coincidence. Does anyone know more about A.M Dunn. At one time I thought he might be Aretus Dunn but it really does not appear so. Please someone help solve these mysteries. In the will of Thomas Dunn, written Jan. 5, 1810 proved Nov. 21, 1810, he names his five children as Maria, Robert, Billington, Thomas and Susan wife of Vincent Dyke. It also shows a plat of how his land was divided. If I'm reading it right, 222 Acres to his widow, Lot 1 Maria Dunn 145 acres, Lot 2 Robert Dunn 120 acres, Lot 3 Billington Dunn 85 acres, Lot 4 Thomas Dunn 90 acres and Lot 5 Vincent Dyke 90 acres. The plat is dated Jan. 23, 1811. Could this be the same Billington Dunn that married Harriet Brown? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Dunn being the parents of Jonas Dunn in Newstead 1860-70-80 census. I have no real confirmation though. Charles lived in Clarence in 1870 just a few miles from Jonas. I believe Charles was in Lockport in early 1800's. If any one knows more please post or contact me. As far as siblings to Jonas I think that A.M.Dunn in Amherst is a possibility and also a Henry born about 1835 could be. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. He was born in Queens County, Ireland. Kay Decatur Daily Review, Decarur, IL July 12, 1899: "William Dunn, for forty-eight years a resident of Macon county, died at 5:15 am, Tuesday, July 11, at the family residence, 452 East Condit street. He had been in poor health for several months. He was born in Queens county, Ireland, Oct. 10, 1826, and came to America in 1851, first settling in Lowell, Mass. There he married Miss Anna Dempsey, who, with five children, survives him. The children are Edward Dunn of East St. Louis, Mrs. Edward Hogan and Peter, William and Miss Lillian Dunn of Decatur. Mr. Dunn was a faithful member of St. Patrick's Catholic church and was held in highest esteem by all who knew him. The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Thursday morning from St. Patrick's Catholic church. Solemn high mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father J.H. Kelly. The interment will be at Calvary." The Daily Republican, Decarur, IL July 12, 1899: "The funeral of the late William Dunn, who died on Tuesday at his home, 542 East Condit street, will be held from St. Patrick's Catholic church Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Solemn high mass will be celebrated by Rev. Father Kelley and the burial will be at Calvary cemetery. Mr. Dunn's death was caused by Bright's disease and he has been ill for some time past. His condition, however, had been improved and his death was rather sudden. The deceased was a native of Queen's county, Ireland, where he was born in October 1826. He came to Macon county 48 years ago, and until about 15 years ago lived on a farm near Mt. Zion. For 15 years he has lived a retired life, making his home in this city. He is survived by his wife and five children, Peter and William Dunn of Decatur, Mrs. Ed Hogan and Mrs. Lillie Dunn of Decatur and Edward Dunn of East St. Louis." Amy, What state is your White County in? I live in White County, TN and my Dunn's were in White County, TN late 1820's to early 1830's. The 5 counties that surround White County got big chunks of White County when they were formed, so, a lot of my Dunn's ended up in Dekalb Co., Putnam Co., Coffee County as well as several other counties besides White County. We may connect if your Dunn's were in White County, TN.
