    2. Hi Linda, I noticed in your list of surnames that you had a HARTWICK listed there. My grandmother's name was Elsie Jane Hartwick. She married my grandfather, Walter Lemon THOMAS, in Ironton, Iron Co., MO in 1904. I have not been able to find anything else on her. Would you have that name in your line? Kathy

I have no information about Ellen Dunn's history. The date of her birth fits with when my Ellen Dunn married my great-grandfather. My grandparents had 12 children, who live in Worcester, Massachusetts or near by communities. Hope this helps with the puzzle. Send along any information. Thanks Joan

I believe the date of this book is somewhere in the late 1890's due to the family members listed on some other persons written about in this book. Anyone who would like the author and date, please e-mail me.) JAMES G. DUNN, proprietor of the dray and a general store in Rhinelander, Oneida co. was born in Massachusetts February 22, 1842, a son of John Dunn, who first saw the light in 1815 in County Kilkenny, Ireland. When about twenty years of age the father came to this country, landing at Boston, and worked on the first railroad ever constructed in America. He married Mrs. Bridget (Morey) Kelley, a native of the same county in Ireland, and by her had two children, James G. and Mary A. For many years John Dunn worked in the stone quarries at Quincy, Mass., and in 1852 he came west with his family, settling on a piece of land near Fort Winnebago, Wis. Their trip to this State was made in part by boat from Buffalo to Milwaukee, thence by team to their destination. Here the father cleared a nice little farm whereon he passed the rest of his days, dying in 1883. Before coming west he had sent to Ireland for his father, James, brother James and sister Mary, but the father died and was buried at sea, the others joining our subject at Boston. The mother of our subject was twice married, first time to a Mr. Kelley, by whom there were three children, John, Patrick and Eliza, all of whom died in Marquette Co., Wis. The mother passed away about the year 1875. The subject proper of these lines was ten years old when he accompanied the rest of the family to Wisconsin, and here he worked on his fathers farms summers, attending school during the winter season. He remained at the parental home until his marriage in 1867, at which time he bought a farm in Marquette county, whereon he lived eleven years, then moved to Portage City, where he dealt in real estate some six years. In November, 1884 he sold out, and coming to Rhinelander, worked first on a railroad, later commencing the dray line, which he yet owns and conducts with much success, also, since 1893, carrying on a grocery store. Mrs. Dunn managing a millinery department; he is also agent for the Standard Oil Company. He now owns a fine property in Rhinelander, including his residence and store. In December, 1867, Mr. Dunn was married to Miss Maggie O'Hara, who was born in Hartford, Wi in 1847, daughter of John and Mary (Weir) O'Hara, who were the parents of six children named respectively: John, Thomas, Burgett, Mary, Maggie and Michael. The father came to America when a young man, was married in Vermont, and came to Wisconsin about the year 1845. He was a tailor by trade, but after coming west he followed farming; he died in 1859. The mother of Mrs. Dunn was born in Ireland in 1811, daughter of Frank Weir, who died in Ireland, leaving a widow and two children, mary and Henry. The family came to the United States about the year 1829, and the widowed mother is now living with her daughter, Mrs. Dunn. To our subject and wife were born six children, namely: Anice, William, Ella, George, and Grace, living, and Lulu, deceased wife of Harry Ashton. Of these, Anice is married to George Whitney, the rest living at home. Politically, Mr Dunn is a democrat, and while a resident of Marquette he served as supervisor and treasurer, also on the school board. At the present time, he is alderman of the Sixth ward of Rhinelander, socially, he is affiliated with the Catholic Knights; in religious faith he is a member of the Roman Catholic Church. _________________________________________ Hope something here helps someone out there. ~~Linda Seaman Researching:  WORDEN, DUNN, ELLEFSON, JAKEWAY, GENSLER, FELKNER,WETMORE, MERICLE, ZACHOW;   DECHANT, FOX, DONEY, STRICKLAND, HOLLISTER, GOODRICH, TREAT, HARTWIG (HARTWICH, HARTWICK), BIEKER;  SEAMAN, CARDER, TUNNEL(L), MIDDAUGH;  TRIGG, VERMILLION, RODGERS, RIGGS, SMITH (Smiths only from before early 1700's) and related lines. 1. [DUNN] William John Dunn - New Member Hoping
    2. Hello everyone on this list, I'm new to your list & am looking for a specific Dunn list subscriber who contacted my niece in 1999 regarding a William John Dunn in his family. At that time she did not followup because it appeared not to be the right time period. However, recently we discovered documents that proved we were off by at least one generation on our William John Dunn. Thus I'm trying to reconnect with that person. What I'm looking for is a connection to anyone for a William John Dunn who married a Native American Indian woman in the area of the reservation near Rulo & Table Rock in southeastern Nebraska, very near the Nebraska/Missouri border. Our lines descend as follows: William John Dunn & "Mary" Little Fawn (born circa early 1800s) to Robert Dunn & Rebecca Dowden (born circa 1840-1850) to Mary Frances Dunn 1870-1946 & William M Brown (Willie) 1867-1889 to William Alvin Brown 1889-1946 & Bertha Ellen Kimes 1892-1982 to Doris Elaine Brown 1923-living & Carl Jens Hansen Eldhardt 1921-1994 to ME - Sharon Elaine Eldhardt 1947-living to my niece (my sister's daughter) - Sandra Jean Carmichael 1958-living Per family folklore handed down to me by my grandmother & aunts, William John met Little Fawn when she was living with a Quaker family near or on the edges of the reservation. There are stories of my grandfather & his stepfather (his bio father died at the age of 22 before his birth) visiting the reservation to see her & her relatives. Her surname may have been Wolf, but we don't know if that is her Native name or the Quaker name. Tribal association probably was either Oto Sioux or Fox. Any help will be appreciated - this is one of our brick walls. Thanx - Sherry Sherman, Colorado

I got an e-mail today from Danny Dunn, that lives in Chatsworth saying that he had been told that Robert S. Dunn was murdered by B.N. Hyde. He is doing some research on this. Also, he ran across probate records giving custody of Theron (my grandfather) and his brother Robert first to Floyd, then to Cass as their dad was killed. Thanks, again! God Bless!
