I am adopted and looking for my birth father Vernon Lee Dunn. I have looked in the SSDI, called the Federal Prison number, placed my name on several adoptee lists including the one in Nevada, gotten in touch with my uncles and a cousin on his side of the family. They don't speak to each other much and haven't seen Vernon in at least 6-10 years now. I have called names in phone books through the US. One number may have been correct at one time, the new owner said if he ever met this guy he would hurt him because he owed everyone money. Too bad I didn't keep that #! If anyone would like some more information on his family, please feel free to ask and I will tell you what little I know. I am trying to locate him through the SS office (they are supposed to forward a letter to him) and see if he responds that way. I don't have the correct date of birth for him, but I do know his brothers. Also his parents are deceased. Thanks for listening Mel. S.

None of us may know Vernon, but perhaps with more info from you we may be able to help you know some of your families past. Keep digging. It sounds as though you have made a great start by finding living relatives. Kelly Dunn

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/hlT.2ACEB/2696 Message Board Post: The articles in “From the Archives” are reprinted from previous editions of The New Jersey Herald, which began publication in 1829; the Sussex Register, which began in 1814; and the Sussex Independent, which began in 1871. The stories appear in their original form, although some have been edited for length. In todays paper 9/23,2001: "125 YEARS AGO. On Thursday last we received a visit from Mr. David Dunn of Oxford, Oakland county, Mich., who after an absence of several years , is now visiting his old friends in this county. Mr. Dunn reports that Oakland county is largely composed of former Jerseyans, many of whom are from Sussex. He also spaeks in the highest terms of the climate and soil of that section of the State and of the success of the crops the past season. Mr.D. was accompanied by eight former Jersey men, who will, after visiting the scenes of their younger days , meet in New York and on their return home take in the Centennial and the National Capital."
