    3. Hi List, Does anyone have connection to the following family: Charles FORBES farmer of Garrick & Newton Echt died 1876 born c 1819 Jane DUNN FORBES died 1906 born 1820. their first son Alexander was born 1848 in Leochel-Cushnie, Aberdeen. (IGI) I cannot find a marriage for them on the IGI 1835-55. My query is in relation to Jane DUNN FORBES. If anyone has her in any research please I would be grateful for her father's name as I am trying to connect her with my ancestor Robert DUNN BORN 1819 father William DUNN labourer (as mentioned on Robert's marriage cert). His military records states born Echt but the only Robert DUNN on the IGI has his dates earlier (1817) and his military records and census details seem definite that is 1819. If anyone has a spare moment when connected to Scots Origin perhaps it would be possible to check for her marriage probably in Leochel-Cushnie as their first child was christened there and this is her birthplace according to the 1881 census. She is buried in Kirkyard of Echt which I found her FORBES details in as I have the booklet of the MIs. Any help appreciated, Regards, Bev Bainton Sydney Australia __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make a great connection at Yahoo! Personals. http://personals.yahoo.com

Abt. 1821, Tennessee; d. Aft. 1860; m. REBECCA S. GARNER, December 22, 1841, New Wells, Cape Co., Missouri; b. January 23, 1815, prob. Lincoln Co, N.C.; d. Aft. 1870. Notes for WILLIAM J. DUNN: William J. Dunn was in Cape County, MO per the 1850 MO census; in Unity, Alexander County Il per the 1860 Illinois census. William J. Dunn, Sr. was not with his family by 1870 and wife Rebecca had remarried (to a man named Isaac Strader). Earlier, Rebecca Dunn of Alexander had married a Louis Holmes in 1864, so William was apparently deceased or gone elsewhere by that time. Of course, the Civil War took place between 1860 and 1870. Perhaps William J. was a Civil War Veteran. Civil War records, don't seem to reveal that he served however. William J. Dunn, Sr.'s brother - Burrill Dunn, did in fact serve in the Civil war for the Union Army with the Missouri Light Artillery, Batteries A and D. While in the service he contracted consumption and chronic diarrhea, which ultimately caused his death in 1867. I have Burrill's Civil War Pension records (abt. 30 pages of handwritten affadavits and letters) which confirm this. Burrill and family lived near Lutesville. Several of them, in! cluding Burrill are buried in an old cemetery near Crump, Missouri. The pension records also confirm that Burrill's siblings included William and Solomon Dunn. Solomon was living in Cape County, MO in 1850, in Liberty Twp, Mo in 1860, and in East Cape, Illinois in1880. Solomon Dunn's 1880 Census record reflects that his father was born in Tennessee. William J. Sr., Solomon, and Burrill were born between 1821 and 1831 (in Tennessee, Tennessee, and Illinois respectively). I have yet to find Solomon in 1870 census records. Since Burrill Dunn was born in Illinois (in 1831); it appears that our line of Dunn's lived in Tennessee (prior to 1828 see Solomon's birthyear), then possibly in Illinois (sometime between 1828 and 1840). William J. Dunn was in Cape County at latest by 1841, when he married Rebecca Garner. Most early settlers to Southern Missouri migrated from Tennessee and Kentucky, came by way of the Carolina's and Virginia, and the likelihood is that our earliest ancestors migrated in the same manner. I suspect that there were additional siblings (of William J., Solomon, and Burrill), but to date have been unable to confirm any although some reasonable possibilities exist in the family of Isham Dunn (born in TN and later) of Gallatin and Johnson County, Illinois or more likely James Dunn of Gallatin County, IL in 1830). All circumstantial evidence points to the three brothers (William J, Solomon, and Burrel) as sons of one of these two men, both of whom were in Gallatin and Johnson County Illinois early. The first man, Isham Dunn (son of Shadrach) was listed in the 1830 and 1840 IL census for Gallatin County and Johnson County in 1850 had a large family. Census records do not rule him out as the father, as for example the 1830 and 1840 census for Isham's family includes males born in the same range of time who are not accounted for in the 1850 Johnson County IL census. The second man, James Dunn is listed in the 1830 Gallatin County Illinois census with males of the ri! ght age to have been William J. and Solomon. Burrill born in 1831, would not yet have been listed by 1830. James is not in the IL census for 1840 and if the father of the three may be deceased by this time. There is a James Dunn who served in the Black Hawk War out of Gallating County, but it is unclear if he is this James or the James R. Dunn son of John Dunn (son of Shadrach). Regarding the probability that these Dunn's of Gallatin and Johnson County are connected to our three brothers; the heavy use of rather uncommonly seen Biblical names (e.g . Shadrach, Isham, Sampson, Solomon, Jonah, Jeremiah, Levi) in the families, I think is significant. The fact that families often migrate together should not be disregarded and relates to what me be among the most important pieces of evidence as follows:. The 1840 census listing for Gallatin County Illinois which includes Isham Dunn also includes nearby families with surnames Hope, Henderson, and Harris (all on same census page w! ith Isham). Ten years later, the 1850 census for Cape Girardeau County Missouri where the three brothers resided in 1850 includes the Henderson, Hope and Harris families all listed immediately next to William J. Dunn and family. In fact, an Ortin H. Hope (age 4) is living in the Dunn household. More than a coincidence I think! The fact that a number of Isham's children were born in TN before 1830 is also possibly significant. Whether the sons of Isham or James, It is quite clear to me that our Dunn brothers are closely connected to this family, and therefore in the absence of conflicting information I am linking them for purposes of this family tree. The scenario which seems most likely is as follows: John Dunn Sr. living in Halifax County Virginia moved along with other families (see Pankey family) and some of his children to Clark County, KY as sons Jeremiah, John Jr., Isham, and Anderson, and daughter Philadelphia (see George W. Hope), daughter Susannah (see William Pre! witt) are all found in Clark County Kentucky by 1810. At least three brothers (Sampson, Shadrach, and James) migrate to North Carolina and/or Tennessee by 1800. Later the three move to Southern Illinois (where found are families with the names Hope, and Pankey for example on the same page as the Dunn families). It appears that Sampson and Shadrach came first and James later. It is from Southern Illinois (probably Gallatin or Johnson County) that our three Dunn brothers leave to go to Cape Girardeau County by 1850. ii. SOLOMON DUNN, b. 1827, Tennessee; d. Aft. 1880; m. My great grandfather was Andrew Jackson Dunn, Sr. married to Ann Hammack. My grandfather, Andrew Jackson Dunn, Jr. came to Texas in the late 1880's. He had a sister named "Addie" who married a Joe Sanders, and they had several children (a daughter named Hettie). Does any of this info connect with your data.

    2. -->> 10/08/2001 10:41:43 AM Mountain Daylight Time, bhallowell@erols.com writes: > I look on the 1880 Mississippi census and I found two Dunns ... > Minor Dunn farm laborer age 42 white ... or Wash Dunn farm helper > Black age 32 ... <<-- > Good morning fellow list members, Might I inject a suggestion to help in our research to clarify and sort our ancestors? The above copied excerpt pointed out how difficult it can be for those of us with multi-racial, multi-cultural heritages to keep our relatives in the correct lineage. In that message, 2 families are listed of different racial backgrounds - both possibly cross into my heritage (further research is necessary to connect them up). This has happened before & as I find more relatives, it's been happening more frequently. I'm proud to claim all people related to our family, which seems to have always been colorblind & culturally openminded. The difficulty comes in sorting which members belong to which family. This listing which clearly shows the race of each makes it so much easier to do. My suggestion is that, if known, when listing you may want to state the race/heritage. Historically, it appears that there was a time period when there was a mixing of races (whether by choice or not makes little difference to genealogy) during the slave periods. Then there was a time period when there was little mixing. Followed by our more current open lifestyles where again the mixing happens. As a person of truly mixed heritage thru many generations, I make no judgments on this situation. As a genealogy researcher, knowing the differences helps a lot. I suggest desinating both racial (black/caucasian/oriental/Native American) and cultural (Danish/Norwegian/Swedish, for example - another of my family lines difficult to follow). It helps to know where to look for the records if you know origins. I sincerely hope this suggestion does not offend anyone. My intention is simply to find a better way to aid our research. So far my research has managed to find & prove relatives of origins which include: Caucasian, Black, Korean, Japanese, Danish, English, Native American, Phillipine, French, German, Hispanic - which makes us truly an international family group, now if I could only find an Inuit & an alien from outer space I think I'd just about have covered all sources. ;-) My wish to all is successful researching - Sherry in a cool fall Colorado

    2. My ggg-grandfather Plineas Abirim Dunn was born in MS and died in Montague Co., TX. I am at a loss as to who his family was but I do know that he migrated with his first wife, Mary Price, from TN to TX. He named one of his son's Monroe. I am hoping that you can find a connection to him. If so, I can provide you with info on our family from him down. Sincerely, Carol Mattison
